Not an exciting basketball game (we had a blowout win) but my boy put in a few nice shots and assists. Here's a quick video for any fans of youth sports.

no matter who the GOP nominee is, I'll vote Biden. But Trump failing to win the primaries is, in my mind, the ideal outcome for 2024. We need a repudiation of his openly anti-democratic goals. Haley would be a bad pres. but I doubt she'd want to, or be able to, pull off the same dictatorial moves

we don't have a 'liberal' mainstream media. Just corporations chasing dollars. Fox doesn't believe Trumpism and MSNBC isn't progressive.

I'm counting on corp.s recognizing that a 2nd Trump term isn't just tax breaks. It's the end of freedoms and democracy. Please get with it media!

First game of middle school basketball! A lopsided win, but I'm really proud of my boy and his whole team for playing some beautiful, selfless ball with constant movement, always ready to give up the ball for an assist and to help and adapt on defense. Going to be a fun season to watch!

The Annunciation by Henry Ossawa Tanner, 1898

Last time I saw this painting in person was the last time I visited Philadelphia, 15 years ago with @JenniferDesrosiers

Beautiful work and Tanner's standout masterpiece.

This video from @MeidasTouch is absolutely wild - I can hardly believe all of this (absurdity from the GOP) occurred in just the last 24 hours!

after graduating art school approximately 1 million years ago, I lived in a tiny apartment above a restaurant. This is a portrait of my landlord and proprietor of the bar he's pictured in, who also lived in the same building and whom I still consider a good friend.

It's been a few years since I've painted anything (fatherhood, alas) so this is older, but it's one of my favorite landscapes. Purchased by one of my few, ardent patrons as a gift to his eldest son - hoping to inculcate in him a similar enthusiasm to patronize local artists.

A mountain scene, Val d'Aosta by
J. M. W. Turner (c. 1845)
Turner was immensely important to me in art school - wished I could paint like him for years (I can't) and still find myself utterly gobsmacked when viewing his paintings IRL.

short answer: yes
Longer answer: it may take some decades yet but eventually A.I. is coming for all jobs. There's *no* occupation that the machines won't be more capable and more tireless at while also cheaper to employ.

the world is nowhere near prepared for what's coming

Cezanne was famously insecure about his art, following years of rejection by the Paris Salon. One art history teacher in college related to me how he once stormed out of a dinner in his honor, feeling that they (a bunch of luminaries in art that took inspiration from his work) were mocking him

a complex subject, but my hot take is that this is a positive development. I appreciate renting an AirBNB vs hotel room but the business model is wreaking havoc on housing and apt. rental markets, so I hope more cities/states find smart ways to regulate

this video felt like a gut punch - because I let the New Yorker article get to me when it was first published. And it hurt to think one of my favorite comedian/pundits was conning me. My apologies to Hasan! That was an inexcusable hit job of "journalism"

research like this is why I don't bother so much with current polls. It doesn't matter at this stage how far ahead or behind someone is. And what moves the election will be the events/narratives that unfold closer to election day, not what's in today's headlines or polls.

hilarious - the media is addicted to trying to appear balanced and always providing a 'both sides' narrative. They do the nation and the world a huge disservice. The failings of the GOP and the Democrats are not remotely comparable.

these are fun! My personal preference (I know it's not happening, it's not like I was on the design committee or anything) would have been for less eye and mouth. To my taste the new logo goes just slightly too far toward cute cartoon and away from a solid brand identity logo - my take below:
Goose @Goose
The new Spouty has a lot of personality. But is one personality really enough for a whale as great as Spouty? I think Spouty deserves so many more (and maybe a second eye too!)

Happy

oh good! Truth be told, I kinda' hated the last version. This one's cartoon eye and mouth are a little much for me, but it's still about a 10x improvement.
Small point: I'd appreciate if you'd put some attention toward Android adaptive icon specs for this one. Would look nicer on my phone

pessimistic, but I tend to agree. Judge Chutkan has been pretty firm and consistent, but I don't imagine there's any judge who wants to be the first to order a former president held in prison, or even under house arrest, awaiting trial.

back in in college, came home from classes and set an egg to boil, sat on the couch to listen to some music. Fell asleep and woke up to the most awful smell of an egg that had super-heated in an empty pot and exploded all over my kitchen.
