Also: With Gaza and Campus protests filling up the news, I think a sudden focus on “Hey- taxes !” would get too many people thinking “Hey- that’s a distraction; just deal with the massacres, Joe!” ... thus, I suppose they are busy trying to get a ceasefire and eventual peace deal organized.

Just a guess: I believe the campaign is trying to focus on one issue at a time, at least for now. Abortion is in the news, so [some] people are paying attention, a little. Krugman’s current column does deal with the tariff threat, but most people are gonna be buffered ’til the fall.

The actual South Korean actor is kinda cute in “The Sound of Magic.”

Still, my favorite K-Dramas are “Move to Heaven” and “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Sisyphus, the Myth.” Memories of the Alhambra is pretty cool too.

And Germans generally speak excellent English. We always expect this from the Finns, the Norwegians, the Swedes. But even with his French accent, Macron speaks better English than the former guy, and a friend of mine in Belgium speaks impeccable English (she teaches Spanish!). My French is just OK.

Thanks. I’ve on occasion added that Biden is tasked with trying to get Scylla and Charybdis to negotiate and make peace with each other. On the US domestic stage, he’s been able to mostly accomplish the metaphorical reconciliation. But with fanatic theocrats Hamas and Likud, it’s much harder.

Thanks for the info, Ms. Savvidis. There is no reason to believe a German politician can ignore the push and pull of political currents any more than an American one can. Biden’s not alone trying to navigate between Scylla and Charybdis.

Last year, Germany also refused to send its Leopard tanks to Ukraine until the U.S. agreed to send Abrams tanks. Scholz eventually agreed to send the tanks once Biden announced that several dozen Abrams would be sent.

Now that three allies have sent their longer-range missiles to Ukraine, it adds more pressure on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to send his long-range Taurus missile. His government so far has refused to do so, yet the move has significant support in the German parliament.

The U.K. announced its largest Ukraine aid package to date this week, which induces 1,600 missiles, including more Storm Shadows. France has also sent its SCALP missile, which has a similar range.

"The weapons were then secretly sent as part of a $300 million tranche of military aid announced in March.”

I guessed this was part of the $300 million ‘savings’ announced not long ago.

Thanks for posting the Politico link.

Instead of the Hippocratic Oath, they seem to take the Hypocritic Oath. An old pun, I realize, but constantly justified by these supercilious, pretentious, condescending misogynists (cough Alito cough).

I’ve been trying to get my friend’s son to register to vote for over a year. They live in Austin, and he just cannot get himself into gear. His laziness will negatively affect his sister, his niece and his girlfriend, for sure. I am frustrated for my friend, who of course votes for Democrats.

If you sheepishly disband immediately upon being called to disburse, then it is not really a “protest,” is it?

Keep it multi-ethnic, multi-faceted, open and with inter-faith and inter-ideological communication; keep it peaceful and respectful ... and much can be learned and achieved, IMHO.
