I don't think it's the House leadership per se that's the problem—It's the House leadership's need to pander so heavily to the Freedom Caucus in order to retain their positions coupled with the lack of pushback by House GOP moderates to the Freedom Caucus agenda.

That would be a good bet. I wonder how well they'll be able to avoid being poisoned, another of Putin's favorite methods of assassination.

The GOP will remain “the Party of Law and Order” even though they don’t support an FBI that moves to applying the law equally and equitably. The narrative is being rewritten to say the FBI has abandoned law and order and is being used as a political weapon by the Democrats. 10/10

The moniker is code switching for suppressing people of color, forcing the LGBTQ+ community to go back into the closet, persecuting anyone with socialist ideas as “communists,” and defaming political activists on the left. 9/10

Does this mean that the appellation “the Party of Law and Order” will be applied to the Democrats? I sincerely doubt it. The designation isn’t really about supporting “law” or “order.” 8/10

This leftward turn in the agency’s activity has brought the enmity of the GOP, particularly since many of its elected officials rely on a base that has increasingly edged to the right during the last four or so decades. 7/10

Although there is plenty of evidence that many in the agency harbor rightwing political views, the agency is finally tracking and prosecuting those involved in enforcing a hard right political agenda. 6/10

I’m not saying that the FBI is a darling of the left by any means, the agency slowly been paying more attention to problems caused by the right: the rise in hate crimes, entrenched racism in police departments, and, of course, the January 6 insurrection. 5/10

Basically, he and succeeding FBI directors through the twentieth century focused their attention on the people that the right disliked. 4/10

I realized that J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI won white America’s approval because he used the agency to suppress people of color, force the LGBTQ+ community to remain closeted, persecute anyone with socialist ideas as “communists,” and defame political activists on the left. 3/10

This cognitive disconnect has been even more apparent during the last decade, particularly during and after the Trump administration. The context hit me as I heard an NPR story comparing the FBI’s PR image during J. Edgar Hoover directorship and more recent directors. 2/10

You’re right. They don’t. McCarthy is the only person in the House able to get votes from all House GOP members. Anyone else would have to build a coalition with centrist Dems. Also, the Freedom Caucus have more influence with McCarthy than any potential replacement.

Not necessarily. The GOP will join the Dems if they perceive that the public tide is turning against them. It just takes enough pressure.

I'm sorry. Hopefully, one day, the state can elect a governor and state congresspeople who actually care about all of the citizens of the state and not just their wealthy cronies. Wishing you the best.
