I overheard a doctor speak so highly of his team to another group of doctors in a different hospital.

We've lost another experienced nurse to the U.S. A nurse colleague has sold her house and is moving to the States. She said she's had enough of the disrespect and frozen wages despite an unprecedented inflation rate. Would you blame her? Nurses deserve better, wherever better is.

She served this hospital as a nurse for 20 years. When she became a patient, she experienced anti-Black racism. Not even her years of service counted for something, all because of her skin color. Her name is Connie Scott, a 79yo Black woman. I believe her. This story is so sad 💔

My intubated patient's spouse was sitting at the bedside, looking sad. I told her it was okay to talk to the patient, share good memories, & that even though he couldn't reply, he could hear her.

Nurses are critical thinkers. Stop pretending not to see how much whiteness continues to be exalted within nursing. Stop preserving the status quo. Bedside nursing is saturated with Black, Indigenous, & racialized nurses. Don't tell me they're not deserving of these awards.

#NursesWeek is a good time for nurses to start questioning why the CEOs and presidents of nursing organizations are mostly white women/men. Let's not even talk about leadership positions and academia. Racism exists from top to bottom in nursing. Don't pretend you don't see it.

The Ford government just passed Bill 60 to further privatize healthcare. Public resources are being allocated to for-profit clinics to perform surgeries. Meanwhile, many Operating rooms in Ontario are running below capacity due to underfunding. Your health is now for-profit. Sad! #onpoli

I am angry. I am hurt. I fear for Black people, especially Black men. We are not safe anywhere, so excuse me if I dare call out daily racism and complicit white silence. If you can't handle my timeline, block me. Don't come here to justify the daylight lynching of a Black man.

I don't care to know whether #JordanNeely had prior arrests because I live in a system that constantly criminalizes those experiencing homelessness. I've cared for patients who have murdered people, yet not once have we tried to kill them for having a meltdown.

As an ER/ICU nurse, I've had patients yelling & threatening to harm staff. We de-escalate such situations. We don't kill patients just because they "appear threatening." How does a white marine kill an unhoused Black man who was crying for help? Those justifying this are evil.

I just had to pause to cry a little. People watched while Jordan Neely was murdered on NYC subway. They brought out their phones to record but did absolutely nothing to stop the killer. How much is a Black life worth in a world plagued with white supremacy? This hurts. A lot 💔

One problem we have in Ontario is that we have political leaders who have absolutely no experience in the various ministries they hold. How can we have a minister of health without any background in healthcare & an education minister who was never a teacher? This is an error!

I struggled with hate and bitterness for many years.
My father was assassinated, my paternal grandmother was assassinated, my uncle died mysteriously.
But I had to seek wellness or I would have been consumed.
I’m grateful that I learned that love is great fuel for justice.

Before you bully the next nurse claiming a "strong, incomprehensible accent," ask yourself - is the nurse's accent affecting the quality of care patients receive? Or is your racist sense of superiority impacting the nurse's ability to feel safe to care in that work environment?
