New YouTube video! This time, I defend cultural criticism - it’s okay, assuming you’re not being a mean-spirited troll, to… not like things. You don’t have to love everything equally. You can develop your own sense of taste… and have aesthetic preferences. It’s allowed.

This Ohio result is an enormous win in a red state that goes +8 GOP in national elections. This will resonate in the ‘24 presidential election. That election will be about abortion as much as anything else.

Ohio is the biggest story today - not DeSantis or anything happening with Trump. Will the Dems vote in strength today to keep the GOP from messing with a vote they should lose in Nov? Are they aware and engaged enough? If they are, in Ohio, it says good things about ‘24. If they aren’t, concern.

The misreading of the current political moment is reminiscent of how badly msm was getting it when the “red wave” was all but etched in stone last October. He’ll get his base, there may be a 3rd party candidate and a huge turnout by the left will be necessary. 5 battleground states will be decisive.

I quit Twitter, or whatever the hell he’s calling it, tonight. Being a part of that is, on some level, endorsing it, and I can’t do that. Musk’s voluminous acts of sneering at anyone who disagrees with him makes him uniquely dangerous. So, I’m done. I’m here and a few other places and that’s it.

There’s rumor afoot that major news operations are setting up shop outside a federal courthouse in DC. If true, and I have no idea if it is, one would guess that they’re going because… they think there’s a reason to go. Will tomorrow be a significant day??? I’ve no idea, but we shall see...

The Russia story is fascinating and not necessarily over - because nothing either Putin or Prigozhin can be believed, we can’t be sure what either will do - or even can do. It probably doesn’t spiral out of control… but it easily could.

Cannon will not be recusing herself - not surprised. They’ll be a pitched battle over how to handle classified documents involved in the case. I’m guessing she’s going to something out of the ordinary there - she’s going to mess that up - and then we’ll see if there is review by the 11th circuit..

While I’m concerned about Cannon there is still the J6 indictment and Georgia. Plus the NY trial. In all honesty, I’d like 2 or 3 convictions - that would do the job. I’ll allow one not being a successful prosecution.

It feels like Trump is in vastly more jeopardy with these charges than he has been in some time. Like the midterms when the press was parroting “red wave” until they realized retroactively that was not the state of play, the GOP is far weaker than they or the press seems to understand.

Chris Licht out at CNN. On one level, good news - he was an abject disaster. It doesn’t mean that those owning CNN are suddenly going to take a turn to the left, however. I’m guessing they’ll dig in harder, but you never know, they may see the error in going in this direction.

Re Anderson Cooper: I think he meant it, and considering he was discussing perspective, let’s consider his. His view is from a highly privileged angle-he’s high up in his profession and a Vanderbilt heir yet has no compunction lecturing people on what are fair criticisms. He’s compromised himself.

Disappointing to hear Anderson Cooper defend CNN last night. People know that Trump is the front runner. That doesn’t automatically make him newsworthy. In normal times it would, but these haven’t been normal times. You can’t say he’s a threat and then give oxygen to the threat you’re lamenting.

Spot on. A lot of big business is very right wing and they own the media. It’s scary stuff. Turn around the culture and you can eventually turn around the media too - in other words, make business more left leaning.

One of the initial things fascist movements do is control the communication.

So look around.

Twitter? Compromised
CNN? Compromised
Fox News? State TV

Chris Licht claimed today that CNN had done America a service - that we now knew things we didn’t know yesterday. It’s an incredible claim. People DIDN’T know Trump was a raving maniac??? That’s news??? Licht strikes me as errand boy working for conservative owners.

We all harp on this, but Florida may be the first completely failed state, now a "christian" white nationalist dicatorship with little chance to reverse what they've done, it's a full takeover and most there are ok with it. Ohio is bad, this is worse.

Well intentioned but I disagreed. It is always time to critique issues with any party. Yes, we should be voting en masse for Dem candidates up and down the ballot, because things are desperate. But if you can’t critique your party you’ve become a Kool-Aid drinker. Integrity demands we do both.
anandalenalen @anandalenalen
Seriously. This is not a moment to critique (very real) Dem issues, it's a time to stand in solidarity to END the GOP. Lives depend on it, in the very literal and very immediate sense. The future depends on it. EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS depends on all of us VOTING.

Good news today, but we really don’t know why, because we know very little about the inner workings of Fox. The why is extremely important. It makes you wish Dominion hadn’t settled. The fact that everyone was blindsided speaks to how little we know about what’s really going on… across the board.

Her reply is absolutely spectacular. There is nothing even remotely controversial in her statements. She states the facts and elucidates them in such a way as to make rebutting them inconceivable. This was a great response, it should be part and parcel of every liberal’s playbook.

Demanding a higher standard doesn’t just mean demanding it for the GOP (who are criminals), it also means demanding a higher standard for ourselves. If we don’t, we’re no better than those we criticize. Uncomfortable. Also no getting around it. Integrity demands it.

She should go. No doubt. Of course the GOP blocked. The Dems show no real desire to do anything about Thomas (too timid) so that’s not a result of Feinstein. A ton of judges have already been confirmed (that’s worth really looking into). So… even though I agree… there’s a level of hype here…
CALL TO ACTIVISM @Calltoactivism
The GOP has blocked the Dems' plan to replace Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee.

Dems won't be able to advance Biden's judicial nominees, raise debt ceiling, or investigate Clarence Thomas.

She has an impressive legacy, but we have a crisis. If she can’t return, Feinstein must resign.

Fascinating. I was surprised by yesterday’s decision, but in what has become a pattern, there are a lot of Trump judges that are partisans making decisions based on that partisanship, and that would seem the case here. I would expect the Appeals Court to get this right, but we shall see.

There is a deeply pacifist streak in the Democratic mindset (and that is laudable), but this IS power politics and the needle moves when people push hard. I believe people are. Politicians not so much. But if we vote… constantly for people who won’t put up with it, we’ll be doing ourselves a favor.
