Lois Curtis legacy of both her work and her advocacy is reflective of how art and activism from Black disabled people has played a vital role in furthering civil rights and social justice movements.

Thankful to the incredible Jennifer White-Johnson for contributing her artwork for my blog!

Did you know the desire to escape slavery, was once classified as a mental illness called Drapetomania in 1851.

Black people were considered mentally ill for refusing to live in bondage.

A statement from the NBPA on the Orlando Magic’s recent political donations.
The DaVos family are big donors to the republican party...they just gave DeSantis a big check via the Orlando Magic basketball team and now the NBAPA is calling them out...GOOD JOB!

Black people did not learn agricultural skills via slavery. Let’s be VERY clear.

Black people already had the knowledge and skills!

It was colonists who had no idea how to grow crops and preserve food; so they exploited and bought Black people to put their skills to work in the Americas.

This is my second story about my experience with affirmative action. It also includes my personal brush with the issue of student loans. This time i'm not the person getting helped by either. I'm one alum selected to an important alumni Council of my graduate university, Cornell in Ithaca, NY.

Last night at the GRAMMY Museum, I gave an impromptu lesson showing the throughline from #doowop to #kpop in the green room using my #graphicfacilitation skills on a mirror. One of the attendees jokingly asked, "Are you saying Blacks invented everything cool in America?" #blackmusic

Another reason to see and support the film is because it's a miracle it even exist at all. The director, Kenny Vance had his home destroyed in Hurricane Sandy and lost hundreds of hours of footage. #doowop #rocknroll #documentary #Hurricanes #HurricaneSandy #KennyVance

It would’ve been interesting if it had deeply explored those racial & sociopolitical things. But that could be for another #documentary filmmaker. Because what this film aimed to be was just like its title suggests, “a love story.” On that account, it was a great success. #doowop #blackmusicmonth

It was interesting to see how those early #rocknroll shows were integrated. Kenny shares lots of footage from Alan Freed’s rock & roll concerts, and you see teens “from all five boroughs” laughing, dancing, & singing along to the music together. #AlanFreed #documentary #1950s #blackmusicmonth #NYC

A Big thumbs up to the new #doowop #documentary #film Heart & Soul: A Love Story! Though not an exhaustive history of the genre or deep sociopolitical exploration, the movie still gives you great insight into what doo-wop and its performers were about. #rocknroll #blackmusicmonth #FrankieLymon

Anybody can get on TV and tell white supremacists what they want to hear for an hour. Tucker Carlson's show told them who to attack. I wrote about its unique and under reported ability to give license to the very worst people in society.

That reminds me, once upon a time, during the height of the pandemic, I wrote a tune dedicated to healthcare workers and performed it with a little help from my friends. #singfortheunsung #healthcare #unsungheroes (Alyssa always works with the Black Music Project - banjo vid)

We just hit 666 followers; time to post about the man who legendarily "went down to the crossroads." How did Robert Johnson get good quickly? The devil had nothing to do with it. No disrespect to Allen Iverson, but he got good the same way you get to Carnegie Hall, "practice, practice, practice."

Very sad news. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of David "Trugoy" Jolicoeur. Trugoy was a founding member of one of the most creative groups in hip-hop, De La Soul. Rest In Eternal Peace.

Quincy is feeling left out, so I’m sharing his puppy photos. On February 9, he turns one years old. As a puppy, he declared he was running for president. I’m biased, but I would vote for him.

In '49 a racist mob attacked his concert in Peekskill, NY, for a multiracial crowd while state police stood by. He responded, “I’m going to sing wherever the people want me to sing...and I won’t be frightened by crosses burning in Peekskill or anywhere else.”

Can you name him? #BlackHistoryMonth
