I totally agree. I feel that MSM is actively pushing moderates and progressives away. I will be looking at more on-line trusted sources for information. I will still follow Maddow though.

Hey MSNBC, I’m giving you fair warning that I’ll change the channel the second I see Ronna McDaniel appear on any of your broadcasts. And I bet I’m not the only viewer who feels that way.

20 Days in Mariupol will likely win the Oscar for best documentary. It is tough to watch the atrocities and war crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine, but it is worthwhile. The republicans holding up aid to Ukraine are soulless. You can watch it here.

If I did my math right, according to CNN, repub candidates spent 123 million on advertising for the Iowa caucuses. Only about 100,000 Iowa repubs voted. Thus $1,230 was spent (wasted) on each voter. I'm glad the dems have an incumbent and don't have to waste $$ on primaries.

My favorite holiday song is "Carol of the Bells". This year I learned it is a Ukranian folk song that was initially meant as a New years song intended for good wishes in the new year. It is about a swallow returning home and predicting a bountiful year ahead.

Ukraine needs the weaponry to strike inside Russia. U.S. support is critical. The war won't stop until Russia has to deal with the war on their own soil. My heart is with the Ukrainian people. Too many Republicans are in putin's pocket.

Yesterday I went to the museum of modern art in NYC. I took this picture of one of the pieces of art. I think it captures where our democracy stands. We have weathered a lot during the past 7 years and have endured. There are still lots of battles to come. We cannot rest.

It is mind boggling to think that IMHO the best president in my lifetime - Obama was followed by the worst president ever - Trump. What an awful turn of history.

There are so many important issues and ideas featured in numerous spouts. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and need a break. One of my favorites is watching an episode of the Apple TV series "Trying". It always improves my mood. The characters are all likable, give it a look if you need a break.

We must protect and strengthen the civil service system. This includes enforcing the Hatch act. Civil servants must always pledge loyalty to the constitution.

US district judge Bunning wrote in his March 2022 decision
“Ultimately, this Court’s determination is simple, Davis cannot use her own constitutional rights as a shield to violate the constitutional rights of others while performing her duties as an elected official.”

This is troubling. First politicians are bribed to do the bidding of the privileged and then their and their family's well-being physically threatened if they don't comply. Citizens United severely upended our democracy and we are left with many weak-willed legislators too afraid to do what's right.
Politicus USA @PoliticusUSA
Senators voting a certain way due to the fears for their own safety is what it looks like as authoritarians push at the edges looking for weak spots to exploit to begin shifting a democracy into democratic backsliding. Sadly, this isn't hyperbole, and even Mitt Romney is worried about it.

This is a great piece. Thank you. We can learn so much from Zelensky. Citizens United legitimized political bribery. It will take time and a lot of will to reverse this descent. Our leadership needs to confront the American oligarchs. I would love to see Joe really push the issue in 2024.

There is so much to unpack in this article - the extensive use of drones in the battle of Bakhmut, Wagner mercenaries giving orders to Russian mobilized soldiers, the restraint policy of Ukrainian drone operators, the brutal nature of trench warfare, etc. Just brutal.

Great point. I'm not sure what it would take to get 5% of our population to take to the streets, but 17 million people would be massive. I would settle for 1.7 million. It would really make a statement but would need to include a broad, diverse spectrum of our society. Thank you for posting.

A good time to remind everyone that in Oct. 2016 all 17 of our country's top intelligence agencies stated that they are "confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations."
