Big business doesn't really support the Mango Mussolini. It pats him on the head to humor him, then does what it thinks is most useful to itself.

I'm glad to hear it. I think another wrinkle of my approach is that I blocked so many people on Twitter that it feels good to NOT block here.

I don't follow the glamor photos, but as a white cishet man who doesn't have to worry much about online harassment, I can afford to be part of the welcoming committee. I choose to err on the side of following, because it's easy to undo.

Kahn is asking the wrong question, though. "Is it true?" and "Is it fair?" are the right questions. If the press was focused on those, we wouldn't be expecting people to show up for work with a sweeping agenda like "save democracy." Bothsidesing got us here.

When the GOP isn't in power, they spend their time shitposting, proposing things that can't happen until they're in power again. I know that's mostly what any minority party does, but it seems so much smaller and so pathetic because the things they propose are attempts to hurt people.

I understated that a little. Those four metros add up to almost 3 million. I didn't count South Bend because Notre Dame is a much smaller school.

Yep. And I don't believe them when they say the employer will have to demonstrate the tips make it $15.

I think a lot of it in Midwest states is about whether cities can outvote rural areas. In Indiana you probably need the suburbs to have a chance. State population is 6.8m, metro Indianapolis is 1.9m, Gary is 700k. Throw in college-town metros (Lafayette, Bloomington) and you're around 2.8.

Here's the bill. As I read it, it phases in $15 by 2028, unless the business is small, the employee is under 16, or the employer can "demonstrate" that tips bring it $15 -- in which case the minimum wage would be $7.50. I don't like it, but frankly I was expecting worse.

That's the whole Republican Party. That's how they made "populism" a dirty word. They run a con to get the unrich to focus on hurting the people that make them uncomfortable instead of focusing on helping themselves. Or they make them think those are the same thing.

I've spent two weeks in Africa in my life, so I hesitate to offer an opinion, but I think Madeleine is on to something. What I saw when I was there was people living in community. It happens in America, too, but it feels like a smaller percentage of people are on board here.

FiveThirtyEight has a chart on how often members of Congress voted with Trump, and they have him at 40.6%. That's the fourth-highest among Dems in the House, though.
