I love love LOVE that Derek lets me embrace my crone powers here! Gotta have some of us out front with that! Even Xander grew a mane for it.

I have been more influenced by West Side Story than any other musical. I saw it many times & played it incessantly on the piano. (For operas, see Verdi.) How Bernstein built this quintet has my deep admiration. The Act 1 Finale of our Star Wares:TNG is directly related to this & Aida's Act 2 finale.

¹ I have so many, but Bobby Van’s “Street Song” has to be up near the top for sure; he didn’t actually manage to do this in one take, but it’s incredibly impressive nonetheless -- and infectious!

Bob always thought the Nicholas Brothers were the most talented dancers ever caught on film. Seeing this clip from Stormy Weather, it’s hard to disagree. NB: this WAS shot in one take.

To create her life-size horses, American sculptor Deborah Butterfield casts found pieces of wood into bronze, a process that translates the wood’s porous texture into metal. She then builds the structure of the horse, placing head & neck last. I 1st saw one in Windsor.

I busted out of my tournament so I thought I'd drown my sorrows over here at Banter starting with that beet & burrata salad I adore. I honestly think it's the best salad I've ever ordered.

So I was doing banking for my brother, moving $ around & I lost track of what I was doing and the ATM ate the debit card for our joint account. Ugh. Luckily they could tell at their end that it happened so my new card is on the way. I hope it doesn't mess up automatic payments. We shall see.

My friend Nina McCollum wrote a viral article on HuffPost years ago that still gets reupped about applying for over 300 jobs after being laid off in her late 40's. She still gets email from people around the WORLD about being in the same place.

The thing with this “work into your elder years” nonsense is that folks rarely stay with a company for a lifetime. The older you get, the harder it is to find a job that matches your previous income, much less your skill set. And if you’re in an industry where you do hard physical labor, too many

A dramatist needs to be able to tell a tale convincingly. Some people in Reno thought I lied about being there for only one day, due to 3 details I used in my play Three the Hard Way: a wedding chapel next to a Dairy Queen, a pool tournament at the Sands, & the Peppermill buffet.

A few days ago was the birthday of my dear late collaborator Teddi Davis, with whom I wrote my 1st musical The Last Red Wagon Tent Show in the Land. I met her at my Navy job, she wrote me a birthday poem, we tried songs, & that was that. Brilliant lyricist. Here she is as a young WW2 SPAR. Miss you.

Surrealist Dora Maar (once Picasso's lover & model) sandwiched 2 negatives of the same model & painted the background and hat (or is it a decomposing halo?) onto the negative. Softening the emulsion, she scraped & lifted it off, techniques that suggest disintegration.

I love this photo. If you love Yosemite, El Capitan, or big wall climbing, the epic documentary “Free Solo” is a must-see: Alex Honnold climbing it with bare hands, without ropes or pitons. Hair-raising, thrilling. Unforgettable. Worth renting. Warning: you will scream. Often.

I'm not visual: in most dreams of people, I know it's them without seeing a face. Except for Bob. He is so clear in my dreamer's eye, I recognize him at different ages. Our visits are often only seconds long, but each is potent & so real I once felt his leg over mine in bed.

If you've watched an historical KDrama, you've seen these hats on high court officials. In the Asian section we were remarking on the big flaps. A young Korean man said it was so you couldn't turn your head to gossip in front of the ruler. If you did? Busted! 😆 🤣

I'm so glad I got my shopping done. 3 simple but delicious meals today without going out:
-cinnamon raisin bagel w cream cheese
-baked chicken thigh w 1/2 sweet potato
-turkey & pepperjack w lettuce & tomato bocadillo on fresh toasted baguette
I think I'm saving $ but if not, it was still great.
