I went to the coolest place today, & it's been under my nose: the International Women's Air & Space Museum, free exhibits inside Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland. My brother & I were VERY pleased & surprised at what we found: not a few things under glass but extensive holdings.

Charlie & Mary in their heyday. They owned the East End hotel in Belle Vernon. For a while after his death she ran a speakeasy in Pittsburgh as well. My father told me he sat on a barrel over the trapdoor that hid the liquor playing his clarinet when they were raided once.

My grandfather was a bootlegger in PA & died in a car crash when my dad was 7. A cousin recently told me that family lore had him murdered by a rival! Wish I knew what he drove.

It's Father's Day but I dreamed of Mom. I was telling her how much I missed our daily chats. The two of them were joined at the hip from the day they met, & spent 53 years together before he passed away in 2002. We had 20 more precious years with her. Hospice memories are tough ones this week.

My mom at 65 and dad at 75 in their wood paneled basement just after her retirement.

Tonight my local community theater hosted Queer Prom, a party for LGBTQ teens. My friend Paula & others stood outside twirling rainbow umbrellas to welcome them. I love that neighbor allies step up to the plate to protect our queer youth, just as they shield Drag Story Hour from protesters.

We were such broke students I didn't quit my part-time job until I was a week from delivering our son. I went into labor while my ex was picking up my last check from the college. We didn't have a car, so it was a helpful neighbor that drove me to the hospital after he got home.

I already know this. If you follow me here, you do, too. Housing 1/3 of national average is key. OH as a whole has some truly crap politics but Cleveland gets an A+ 100% rating for LGBTQ from the Human Rights Campaign year after year, & it is diverse like you wouldn't believe.

So after my great gin lemonade cocktail I ordered the soft shell crab sandwich special - 2 crabs with slaw & tomato on brioche bun with fries, at $14 a giveaway price. It took long enough - they were busy - that they comped it. Can you understand why I freaking LOVE this place?!

Before COVID I frequently went to Vegas in June for the WSOP, so memories pop on on FB all month long. Bob & I usually stayed at the Flamingo or Paris but we loved walking around in the Bellagio lobby and conservatory to look at floral displays. Here's one from 2013.
