I didn't spend a ton of time on this, but my reading doesn't indicate that HR 6090 expands the definition of antisemitism to include criticism of Israel. It does incorporate the IHSA working definition of antisemitism, which says certain expressions of animus against Israel MAY cross the line.
Carole Tyler @CaroleTyler"The House just passed HR 6090, which expands the definition of antisemitism to include criticism of Israel.07:48 PM - May 01, 2024
Let me be clear. People have rights. State governments do not have rights. This terrible bill sets a dangerous precedent & does nothing to actually decrease antisemitism."

Rudy must have some form of alcoholic dementia, right? I can't figure out any other explanation for the way he's acted the last several years. Well, pure evil, I guess that could be another explanation. #Giuliani

And we are supposed to believe that Trump & Rudy didn’t do this?"

I so remember that Saturday in November 2019 when the MSM announced Biden had won the Electoral College. It was unusually warm for Maine and it seemed like the whole neighborhood was out walking around and loving life. Like an idiot, I thought TFG would fade quickly, except for being tried.

Luckily, there are loads of coffee brands that decaffeinate without using chemicals. I lost the ability to drink caffeine without causing an irregular heartbeat (my doc says this is pretty common after 50). and assumed decaf would taste awful, but was pleasantly surprised that it doesn't have to.
C suzie @CsuzieI had no idea this is how coffee is decaffeinated .

During 2007-2008, I was polled a few times. But now I don't answer the phone unless I recognize the number, so I have no idea whether anybody attempted to poll me. Phone-based polling is useless.
Nyah M @NaniWaialealeSaw a post that read, as an active and informed voter, how many times have you been polled should tell you all you need to know about these polls.10:19 AM - Apr 29, 2024

We adopted our dog, Nina, in 2020 at 14 months old. We hadn't expected to adopt right then, but got an urgent-need ask from a local rescue. She was such a handful at first that I cried, thinking we might have to give her back. Never considered shooting her. Kristi Noem is psycho. #dogsofspoutible

On day 1 of law school, we learned that anything a court ruling says beyond what is necessary to resolve the case is "dicta," meaning not part of the judgment and can't be cited as precedent. So why do these SCOTUS "conservatives" keep cramming opinions with dicta, like Thomas's stuff in Dodd about
12:33 PM - Apr 26, 2024
What the "conservative" justices are doing is dishonest. You are supposed to decide the case before you, period, not devise a roadmap anticipating what might happen in the future. That's what you're taught in first-year law school. This dishonest approach is what is letting them delay the case.

Thanks for this. I've been wondering for a long time why the NYT is always negative on Biden. Disgusting that it's for such a petty reason. Putting ego over the good of the country; way to go, NYT.

The worst part in Maine is these people who have moved here from somewhere else who feel the need to educate us rubes. Well, the second-worst thing. The worst thing is the people who don't want to fund the library--because they haven't been there since high school and their kids have cellphones.

Good luck with your search! I have a friend who lives near Asheville, NC, who says demand is so high now that prices have skyrocketed and availability is tight. I'm not employed by the state of #Maine , but if you want (relatively) cheap and reclusive, it's great. And the southern half is blue.
Brendan Barry @DirtRoadDanI've been a coastal person all my life. My wife wants the mountains. I guess I better get looking. Cheap and reclusive are the constants. Variables include access to services and local politics.05:02 PM - Apr 24, 2024

It's said that New England town meeting is the purest form of democracy. This must have been said by people who've never been to a town meeting. In my experience, it's an opportunity for small-minded, ignorant blowhards to waste everybody's time. Can you tell I just got home from town meeting?

We retired from the San Francisco Bay Area to Maine, my home state. We're happy here, but there are tradeoffs. Grocery stores aren't comparable, there are few movie theaters, no good Chinese food, winter lasts too long. But it's beautiful, community spirited, and we know and like our neighbors.
M Kaz @MKazI'm curious. If you could retire anywhere in the US (on the money you expect to have in retirement), where would you pick? What's important to you? Weather/climate, safety, red/blue state, diversity, country/city/suburb, demographics, community involvement, infrastructure, health care etc.02:45 PM - Apr 24, 2024

Trump is all about himself. He needs to run to have a chance of staying out of jail. He doesn't care about other GOP candidates down the ballot. I used to think other Republicans would stand up to him for the good of the party, but that was way back when I thought the occasional norm still applied.
Oh Well @Oh_WellWonder if now would be a good time for the GOP to start pressing Trump to drop out of the Presidential race.02:24 PM - Apr 23, 2024
This trial has already been devastating to Trump, and it's only going to get worse. And, it's hurting GOP candidates by having all the attention on Trump, and the money.

Depressing how many people think being an impartial juror means you can't have any knowledge or opinions about the defendant. It's not like the Trump trial is the first time a famous person has been a defendant in a jury trial. Do these people think the court beat the bushes to find 12 ignoramuses?
