“ProMED might not always be the fastest, but it always provides important context that would not come through a news report”
“It’s the anti-social media, in a way. It’s a trusted voice.”

-a very, VERY important point. Expert context. Essential

One about a rarely discussed feature of many/most viruses-if they grow enthusiastically enough, they spill over into our blood. Even 'common cold' rhinoviruses.

A little something about the best method to sensitively detect the virus inside us, PCR
(my blog has lots of PCR-based bits & pieces if you want to search & read more about this excellent tool that many armchair experts have never used & know zero about).

A little about flu, specifically H3N2, immune imprinting, and the way H3N2 had split 5-ways into variants that seemed to be lingering - which today draws parallels to SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant fracturing.

Something about the different respiratory viruses back when rhinoviruses flared up in 2020, even though NPIs had dropped the circulation of many other resp viruses.

A little about RSV being more than one 'virus'. If we were to apply the terminology, surveillance and analysis to all these other respiratory viruses that we have to SC2 - my goodness, what a wondrous level of new things we'd learn.

And deaths? They lag cases, as we know, so what we see right now is not very useful, but look at the trend line up to where it becomes dashed; there is an upward trend.
Keep watching. Again the baseline of death is there, but thankfully, it is not (so far) reaching 2022's levels
