🕊️🙏🏼RIP🙏🏼🕊️Mis Viola Liuzzo, you are a role model for the ages. The desantis’s of the world are trying to erase from history what you strong heroes did, but they won’t succeed. Tony Bennet I’m sure grieved your loss, I wish I had known you.🌟🕊️🙏🏼🕊️🌟

These were "dangerous times" for Tony Bennett to ally himself with his friends in support of the Black Civil Rights movement in AL. After the march in Montgomery, Tony was driven to the airport by volunteer Viola Liuzzo. Later that day, the KKK murdered her. #TonyBennett #ViolaLiuzzo #CivilRights

Bennett didn't have to go; he didn't need to risk upsetting the status quo or placing himself in that situation (these were dangerous times). But he listened to his friend and was an ally in the truest sense of the word. #TonyBennett #CivilRights #mlk #HarryBelafonte #allyship #AllyshipIsAction

It was interesting to see how those early #rocknroll shows were integrated. Kenny shares lots of footage from Alan Freed’s rock & roll concerts, and you see teens “from all five boroughs” laughing, dancing, & singing along to the music together. #AlanFreed #documentary #1950s #blackmusicmonth #NYC

It would’ve been interesting if it had deeply explored those racial & sociopolitical things. But that could be for another #documentary filmmaker. Because what this film aimed to be was just like its title suggests, “a love story.” On that account, it was a great success. #doowop #blackmusicmonth

Another reason to see and support the film is because it's a miracle it even exist at all. The director, Kenny Vance had his home destroyed in Hurricane Sandy and lost hundreds of hours of footage. #doowop #rocknroll #documentary #Hurricanes #HurricaneSandy #KennyVance

A Big thumbs up to the new #doowop #documentary #film Heart & Soul: A Love Story! Though not an exhaustive history of the genre or deep sociopolitical exploration, the movie still gives you great insight into what doo-wop and its performers were about. #rocknroll #blackmusicmonth #FrankieLymon

I follow classic films by @albertopastor , black films by @jforwardfilms , @blackmusicproject for deep analysis. This is a rich & artful place that mostly soothes me, despite bringing me wrenching political news. It makes me believe I can make a difference. And that matters most.

Jamaican emcees were known as "toasters" because they rhymed and chanted over records in a melody of boasts, whimsical sayings, and toasts. They adapted this technique from American radio R&B DJ's "jive-talk" at the start of records. {#id:462464#} #emcee #dj #Jamaica {#id:462478#} {#id:458783#}

In the early 50s, most Jamaicans were too poor to own record players, so the few who possessed them would rent theirs out for local block parties in the ghettos of Jamaica.
