These were "dangerous times" for Tony Bennett to ally himself with his friends in support of the Black Civil Rights movement in AL. After the march in Montgomery, Tony was driven to the airport by volunteer Viola Liuzzo. Later that day, the KKK murdered her. #TonyBennett #ViolaLiuzzo #CivilRights

The text says: A lifelong liberal Democrat, Mr. Bennett participated in the Selma-to-Montgomery civil rights march in 1965, and, along with Harry Belafonte, Sammy Davis Jr. and others, performed at the Stars for Freedom rally on the City of St. Jude campus on the outskirts of Montgomery on March 24, the night before the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the address that came to be known as the “How Long? Not Long” speech. At the conclusion of the march, Viola Liuzzo, a volunteer from Michigan, drove Mr. Bennett to the airport; she was murdered later that day by members of the Ku Klux Klan.

The same year #Elvis cut his 1st record in 1953, a Black child named Larry Johnson was born in Deland, Fl. Larry's mother was the church organist who steeped him in gospel music. Larry and his brothers loved soul, doo-wop, R&B, and #motown and formed a {#id:395187#} wannabe group but never made it big.

Since jazz’s New Orleans beginnings in the early 20th century, it has shared a close association with marijuana. Early Black jazz musicians used the plant’s effects to help fuel their creativity and improvisation. In the 1920s, underground clubs catered to the growing jazz scene and its White patrons, who now shared the open secret of “reefer.” This intermingling of cultures did not go unnoticed by “polite society.” And it ignited a harsh backlash against what it deemed “reefer madness” and the “satanic” jazz music that fed it. Proving once again that when you peel back the layers on many American hysterical outbreaks, such as “reefer madness” or today’s “woke crisis,” the real fear you find is of Black people and race mingling.
