it’s complex: too much technology taking the place of real human connections. Too many Big-T and Little-t traumas. Developmentally inappropriate expectations. But i’m neurology and physiology focused and think the root of our problems lie there. We can’t ignore how many neurotoxins are in the world

It’s universal that no one wants to hear that exercise is the answer (to so much of what ails us!). But it’s always good to be reminded and maybe focus on how much better we’ll feel afterward. Best wishes!

Yes. Nothing makes me more irritated than folks who think education isn’t political. Only one political party decimates school budgets, health care access, mental health programs, refuses to address gun violence etc etc. The list is long & we pay the price. Everything is political.

That’s a great question. I think acknowledging that one has decreased awareness is step one. And then working to detect the smallest changes in internal state and validating what that means for you individually. Your definition of a feeling might be different than someone else’s- no less valid.

I really like it sliced and then dipped in something on the veggie tray- hummus, ranch, baba ganoush (my favorite use of eggplants!)

When I had kids in HS & felt that same terror I would use that rage and after I dropped them off, I would immediately call state and federal senators and reps to describe my feelings of terror and frustration as a parent. Made me feel better in a tiny way. But it’s a sad sad world.

Absolutely. It all starts with the sensory profile of how responsive your nervous system is to sensory input.

What you’re describing as attentional sounds like visual hyper reactivity. If you have trouble filtering out visual info then you look inattentive, really it’s too much attention to visual info making it hard for your brain to share attention with the auditory system.

There are a multitude of very legitimate reasons for any teacher to chose to leave. But when I said “it’s the guns” she turned white as a ghost. It’s the thing teachers everywhere are not allowed to say. We don’t even talk about school shootings the next day. Not one damn peep. It’s toxic.

I found drs are very reluctant to tell you it’s probably a food allergy that is triggering the inflammatory response. For my kids when it’s spring and all the pollen makes their seasonal allergies high, they have to avoid milk too or BAM! Eczema patches everywhere. Best wishes for you!

Weighted blankets work for sensory sensitives too because they calm the overworked-overstimulated brain.
