Hello to readers. Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.

Please echo this thread. It’s an important one.

Some career news: I’m leaving NPR as part of the layoffs that dramatically reduced the company’s workforce.

I’ve decided to go back into Ukraine to keep reporting.

But this time, alone.

It's high time we started exploiting the essential fragility of the "strong" authoritarian leadership style.
Brittle as a twig, shallow as a kid's pool.

E. Jean Carroll's trial day:
A good time to recall how Trump has always
lived by the Narcissist's Prayer:
"That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, it's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it."

"Niche marketing is offensive when we hate the people you're marketing to."

Same hate was aimed at the first ads with Black people, with gay couples & the first Spanish-language ads.

Same old tiresome white fragility -- screaming like a neurotic adolescent: DON'T CALL ME FRAGILE! RESPECT MY HATE!

This is so dangerous. RFK Jr. is using his family name to pump pure Russian propaganda on Fox. He behaves like a chaos agent in service to Russia and no one knows why. It could be his whole anti-vaxxer campaign is a bid to breed division and distrust in our public health institutions.

The GOP is in a deep crisis that is only deepening. As they continue to unleash their extremism on the American people, Democrats have a huge opportunity to win big. Watch Kaivan Shroff discuss on The Weekend Show at 8p ET/5p PT!

...and carmakers can be sued when their products kill and injure people.
Tort law deprives victims of guns the legal rights granted to victims of cars.
Tristan Snell @tristansnell
“Cars kill people too,” say the gun extremists?

Okay let’s play this game:

— Drivers must carry insurance
— Drivers must pass safety/skill tests
— Each car has a unique vehicle identification number (VIN) that allows it to be tracked

So let’s pass all the same rules for guns

Seems like EVERY hand-wringing article about the hazards of remote work comes from a wealthy white man.
Can anyone show me an article from a woman or person of color asserting that productivity depends on everyone's physical presence in an office?
I have yet to see one.

1. Allowing adult and explicit content will prevent us from landing certain advertisers.

2. Apple and Google will limit us.

3. Moderating the content is a nightmare.

4. It opens us up to legal liabilities.

5. This is an easy decision for me, and no amount of badgering with change it.

6. NO

Political scientist Lara Brown said short of arrest, there is little to rein in a politician who just doesn't care what people think. “Everything else is just about some level of personal pride and shame. And if you are completely shameless, then you can get away with quite a bit in our world.”

Norfolk Southern, the company whose train derailed in Ohio and unleashed chemicals, made a record $12 billion in revenue last year.

Instead of investing in better safety measures, what did the company do? It authorized a $10 billion stock buyback.

Corporate greed, folks.

I don’t work here. Just a fan. But… a thought.
There’s lots we’re used to in the bird hole. But… @Spoutible isn’t even a month old!
I’d bet every new feature puts stress on the system. Video, threads, groups, etc.
I’d also bet cool stuff is in the pipe.
I trust it’ll be worth the wait.

When right-wing politicians say “woke,” they are not just saying code for Black people. They are using woke as a stand-in for the N-Word.

It’s hate speech and needs to be treated that way.
