I doubt I will ever meet anyone who could love as unconditionally—who could devote herself as deeply to the things that matter most, family and friendship—as my Titi Lorraine.

I will miss you, Titi, for as long as I live. And I will never forget how loved you always made me feel.

Even in her dying hours, my aunt made me feel loved. She made everyone around her feel nothing but loved: every child and grandchild, every sister and brother, every niece and nephew, and most especially her beloved Bobby.

Although her body was frail at less than 100 pounds, she was beaming with the palpable love of a proud aunt.

Instead of heading to DC, as I had originally planned, I took a plane back to New York so that I could see my aunt for what would be the last time I would ever see my Titi.

When I entered the hospice, my Titi, pleasantly surprised, lit the room with a joyful spirit.

A week ago, I was spending time with a few friends in Florida in the hopes of recharging myself when I received an anguished call from my mother about my aunt’s rapidly declining health.
