This is *important* to understand (lest we succumb to willful ignorance). What we like to think is a "meritocracy" is really a rigged "privilege-ocracy." The "standards" of standardized tests are calibrated to reward the levels of privilege of the test takers. We can & MUST do better.

As white people we need to acknowledge this and accept that white people all over the U.S. are racist but even more importantly, the entire system is racist. Call out your white friends, say something when you hear them being racist, accept that racism is embedded and then fight to change things.
