There's no might about it. Greater worker autonomy is good for everyone except ineffective managers who need to exert control over subordinates' time in order to justify their own positions. It's long past time to stop treating workers as children.

It depends on the reason. If it's just because there is a complex move they are thinking through, that's all part of the game. If it's because they haven't been thinking about their moves while others are taking theirs or simply aren't paying attention, I just choose not to play with them.

Just started re-reading Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall. The first time I think I was too intimidated by the list of names and genealogies at the beginning to fully appreciate the first few chapters but I really find her style delightful. It is a genuine pleasure to read.
