thread 2 Threaded Spouts
Dividing humanity into binary groups of "oppressed" & "oppressors" is intellectually & historically lazy & leads to foolish politics. For example, the "good" side (the Union side opposed to slavery) won the American Civil War. But after the war, the Union army slaughtered Native American groups.

"Compromise" is a dirty word these days, especially among online zealots who are utterly disconnected from the complexities of the real world. But compromise is how progress, well, *progresses.* It has the capacity to improve legislation & stop bloodshed, even if it doesn't lead to outright utopia.

It's weird how we turned housing into an investment commodity that separates those who have succeeded at grasping the last few middle-class straws, and those who haven't.

By studying history, you learn that *all* humans have been, & continue to be, terrible to each other, regardless of where they're located on earth. Indeed, terribleness unites humanity across time, making no exceptions for race, creed, or nationality. This concludes your scholarly pep talk.

I've been shuffling on and off (between calf injury caused by said shuffling) for a few weeks now. It's one of the hardest things I've ever attempted to learn. But my goal is to do a smooth running man to a 105 bpm song by the end of the summer. I can do that...maybe. 👀

In response to Dr. Jarret Ruminski.
As we're seeing with the idiotic Ivy Leaguers in the Republican party, attending an Ivy League school (for many) often means that the family had the money to pay the tuition (and probably make a nice donation, too). It isn't where you go, it's how you apply yourself and what you take away from it.

The way U.S. media slobbers over the Ivy Leagues, you'd be forgiven for not realizing there are many other institutions of higher learning in North America, where smart people work and learn!

A basic rule of politics: if a group or organization of any kind features the word "freedom" as a prominent part of its name and operations, you can be sure those groups/organizations are composed of selfish, insufferable dickheads.

Capitalism seems destined to erode the livability of human societies. As a system, it's utterly incapable of committing to long-term thinking and planning. We can't make decisions without first guaranteeing they'll turn a profit, and that bodes I'll for a future shaped by climate change.

Dear people (usually insecure men) who modify your vehicles to make them loud, then blare them night & day, shattering others' peace: you're reprehensible. When you die, may you rot in the foulest level of Hell, with tailpipes blasting into your eardrums for all eternity.

If you view American conservatism as a coherent ideology geared towards public policy, then Trump’s popularity is baffling. But if you understand U.S. conservatism as a free-floating constellation of resentments that coalesce into rage against perceived "others," then Trump makes perfect sense.

RIP O.J. Simpson. He was perhaps best known for his comical turn as the hapless Detective Nordberg in the "Naked Gun" film series.

It will never cease to amaze me how, no matter how much capitalism and the venal worship of money utterly dominates every aspect of human society, some people are *still* convinced that "communism" is just around the corner.

Nothing in life compares to the emotional difficulty of saying goodbye to your pet. These wonderful beings exist for a short time in our lives, but they touch us in ways that last an eternity. 🌈🌁🐱

We could have a vastly more equitable distribution of wealth and resources, and STILL have plenty of exorbitantly rich people to go around. There's an unreasonable greed at the heart of the human condition that causes many people to believe that too much is never enough.

We've based our existence around accumulating materialistic garbage that's killing us while we're alive, & which we can't take with us in death. As a species, we seem hardwired for self-destruction. We're capable of improving ourselves just enough to recognize how short we fall of our potential.

You can't spend more money on an expensive thing anymore and expect that thing to be of higher quality than a cheaper thing. Everything is made to be cheap and disposable now. Whether you drop $50 or $500, it's all the same shoddy plastic that breaks quickly and efficiently.

Does anyone else get tired/fatigued in the springtime? Over the last few years I've noticed a correlation between spring and feeling exhausted (more so than usual!). Springtime lethargy isn't a recognized condition or documented illness, but it appears to be common enough to warrant notice.

Treating billionaires as gods is not an act done by a healthy human society. Rather, it's the act of a society that cannot extract itself from the sunk-cost fallacy of late capitalism.

So many North Americans & Europeans don't realize how of much of the online propaganda they share originates from foreign cyber mills (in Russia, China, etc.). Please note that your "sources" of information, upon which which you hang much of your identities, likely came from digital troll farms.

Do you remember your first movie/TV crush? For me, it was Judith Hoag as April O'Neil in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie (1990). My 9 year-old self was simply not ready to see someone look that good on screen. 😄
