This corral was set up each year for a month in my company's lobby to hold gently used plastic toys as part of our Earth Day events. Often the toys were piled so high, it was hard to open the gate. The toys would be cleaned and sorted, then donated to local nonprofits.

A photo of a white picket corral filled with gently-used plastic toys. For 6 years I was one half of my company's sustainability team. We partnered with an organization located in New Jersey called Second Chance Toys. Second Chance Toys would help us identify child-focused organizations in need, as well as delivery firms like 1-800-GOTJUNK? At the end of April, co-worker volunteers would spend an entire day sorting and cleaning the toys to prepare them for donating. Even the older kids at the on-site daycare center would come by to "help". The event was a big hit and the local organizations really appreciated the help.

Normally, safety cones signal "caution", but to my 2 1/2 grandson, they mean imagination.

One of my grandson's favorite toys I keep at my house is his shopping cart. That, and his school bus, get lots of use. He also loves to use a bunch of safety cones I have in imaginative ways, like a hat for a stuffed bunny, as he did in this photo.

This leaded glass lamp hung in my Massachusetts home before it was moved to the basement bar in my old home in northern Virginia. I often wonder if the new owners kept it in place or if they removed it.

A sight seldom seen, me on a riding mower cutting the grass, at our late brother's place in Vermont. Details in AltText.

July 2015: My sister and I did a road trip to visit our older brother in Vermont. He was in Stage 4 of renal cancer, and we were visiting him while his wife was away with her grandkids. Our brother had all these activities planned, but it was so hot and our brother was too ill to do much. I offered to cut his expansive lawn. I had never used a riding mower, but had fun on his zero-turn mower. He took this photo of me once I felt comfortable to be let loose.
We didn't know this would be the last time we saw our brother. He died 6 weeks after our visit. I'm so grateful we got to spend the time together. I made him all his favorite family foods, we laughed over old family photo albums, and we celebrated my birthday while I was there. Sweet memories.

On my early morning walks to work I would pass this office building. I loved how thousands of tiny lights framed the entrance.

An office building in the early morning light I would pass on my walk to work. It would lift my spirits to see this every morning especially in the dreary winter months when the sun didn't rise until well after 7AM. I used to take a different route home in the evenings, but one day decided to go by while it was still daylight. I was surprised to see up close that these were solid panels that had thousands of small holes randomly cut out with a backlight to cause the effect.

This large snow drift greeted us one morning on January 24, 2016 at our front door.

Virginia doesn't get as much snow as my birthplace, New York, nor as much as my previous home in Massachusetts. But once in a while we get as much snow in one storm as most years accumulate an entire season. This was taken in January 2016 at my former Virginia home. It's a view from inside the front door looking out onto snow drifts piled up on the porch.

The calm after the storm. Everything looked so pristine after the snow storm passed through. More details in AltText.

I spent nearly 4 months in New York visiting my 101-year-old mother and preparing her house for sale. A snow storm came through on February 13, 2024. Although we didn't get as much snow as predicted, it was enough to turn my mother's backyard into a winter wonderland for a little while. I love how the shrub on the right looked like a white-frosted cupcake.

One of my grandtwins is a student at Martha Graham in NYC. One of their dance troupes was sponsored by Dior to perform outdoors in December. Grandtwin is on the far left in the photo. The dancers wore these Midnight blue flowy outfits trailing long scarves in the same color. It must have been a challenge to keep up the pace with the temperatures being so chilly.

It was only a light #Shower , but who could resist walking with my grandson in his cute raincoat to pick up the mail? More details in AltText.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson loves to visit the outdoor mailboxes in my townhouse complex. Sometimes he takes his play shopping cart to carry the mail. On this day a few weeks ago, he took his play school bus to carry the mail. His colorful raincoat has antennae and large round eyes on the hood. I dont get much mail, so I usually let mail accumulate all week so there is a big haul of mostly flyers for local stores or window replacement companies.

One of my grandtwins was so proud to have stood up after crawling until a kitchen stool. I soon had to do a rescue to free this little one who was trapped.

The "older by 30 seconds" twin was so proud to pull up to standing after crawling under a kitchen stool. That soon turned to tears once learning it was all a trap. Luckily I soon came to the rescue to set this little one free — right after I snapped this photo.

I realize today is 4/20, but my yard grows other kinds of weed all too well.

When I was visiting our 101-year-old mother in NY earlier this year, she was insisting I had freckles as I did as a child. I had to take a selfie to prove to her how pale and freckle-less I was.

A selfie I took so I could expand the photo to show our mother that I no longer have a mass of freckles across my nose. At 101 years old her eyesight is failing, and she is seeing things and people who are no longer alive.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson draped himself in multiple blankets for a recent nap at my home. More details in AltText.

I was able to capture a photo of my 2 1/2 year old grandson just before waking him up from his nap. He had 3 blankets surrounding him, plus the first gift I bought for him before he was born, a small, pale yellow duck blanket with a duck head. He's getting too big for his portacrib, but still prefers it for naps.

Both of my sons-in-law are masters on the BBQ grill. One of them was also a fan of sous vide, and once finished off steaks by searing them using a blow torch.

Son-in-law using a blow torch attachment to sear steaks that had been cooked via sous vide. For the record, the finished dish was amazing.

This photo is of my sister's #hearth . I had taken it because of the needlework hanging above it. Details in AltText

I happened to have this photo of my sister's hearth because I wanted to capture the needlepoint artwork above it. My sister's long time neighbor and friend was a talented artist who worked in many mediums, needlepoint being just one. She actually did this one completely freehand. I actually saw her work in progress on one of my visits to NY. she passed away unexpectedly last fall. A few weeks before her passing, she gave this piece to my sister. We often wonder if she knew her time was limited.
