One bit of weird residue from doing a lit degree is the compulsion to power through a book even if I’m not enjoying it. But today I looked at the half-finished novel on my nightstand and thought, “This book is stupid and I don’t like it.” So I dropped it off at a book swap table. How liberating 🙌

I met my husband at a local restaurant for dinner last night. For a moment I was surprised that they already had their St. Patrick’s Day decorations up. Then I realized that here in Germany St. Paddy’s is not much of a thing (but lucky clovers are popular symbols on New Year’s Eve 😂) D’oh!

Pigs are considered good luck in Germany, so it’s no surprise that they pop up on New Year’s Eve 🐷 However, wishing a happy new year before the new year actually arrives brings bad luck and is verboten 😱 Instead, you wish people a “guten Rutsch” - a good slide!
