Interesting trivia: The legendary hip-hop DJ, Grandmaster Flash, actually had ZERO to do with the record he's most associated with. Melle Mel contributed the killer final verse, "a child is born..." but otherwise, no other members of the group are on the record. PUT RESPECT ON DUKE'S NAME!

Edward "Duke Bootee" Fletcher is most responsible for The Message. He wrote, produced, and performed the bulk of it. Grandmaster Flash appears in name only—turning it down because he only wanted to make "party records" at the time. Melle Mel is the group's sole contributor. #unsung #RIPDukeBootee
