We created The Black Music Project because America's story needs fuller accounting. And Black music is perhaps its most significant cultural contribution to the world, and its history is America's story—a story filled with beauty and pain. But it's the truth. And the truth shall set us all free.

Sly & The Family Stone, Stand (1969). Being heavily infused with Black gospel tradition is a hallmark of many #wokesongs —and this uplifting Sly tune is no different. Rose Stone (Sly's sister) says the only studio advice he gave her was: "Just do what you do in church!" #Woke #gospel #funk #soul

Two years ago this week, 8 people were murdered in a mass shooting spree in Atlanta. The shooter bought his weapon that same day. In Georgia, it is against the law to register to vote and then vote on the same day.

Take that as you will, as it pertains to our priorities.
