He has a very specific writing style and voice and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. Nobody has to read a book just because other people like it.

For instance I can’t stand Margaret Atwood books and that’s okay for me.

I’m reading novels only and published by Stephen King (no Bachman books) and by him only (no Peter Straub or Owen Hill etc co writes).

I had to give myself guardrails - especially since I knew one bad short story would stop me dead. I may still be in Night Shift if I had done that.

The big winter storm warning is done, but there is snow falling for every hour of the day today according to both The Weather Network and the Government of Canda weather page.

Makes for perfect weather to sit by the window, watch the snow and read!

My post from day one of reading “I started reading the next Stephen King book in my project yesterday Under The Dome, and so far I’m a bit concerned that I am going to utterly hate the characters who have survived the dome coming down.”

I just stared Under The Dome over the weekend.

I seem to get an entire decade done in a year so by then of 2024 I should be pretty caught up with maybe only a couple left to read.

Though other than Under The Done there aren’t as many doorstops left to read.

I still think The Shining is a masterpiece of his work.

Unlike the rest of the world, I actually enjoyed Dreamcatcher.

It of course was life changing when I read it as a 13 year old.

The one think I can be sure about - The Dark Tower sucks. I hate the series. I am alone in this, I know.

I've been reading them in chronological order based on publication date, novels only.

The first couple of years (started June 2019) I was re-reading books but since 2021 they've all be first time reads, save Needful Things.

I feel pretty slow too. It takes me months to get through a Stephen King book.

I'm reading in chronological order of their publication dates. The first year I started in June and got 10 books finished by the end of the year, but this year I have 7 in total!

It’s taken me quite a few years to build up my reading muscle again.

Starting every morning with about 20 or 30 minutes of reading has really helped.

And also having the same book in paper and as an ebook on my phone so that I am reading the same book all the time.

I think the context of the post pretty much explained your feelings on hot fruit and coconut.

At least it did to me, a Canadian, who also can't take another person saying Canadians say aboot when we clearly say aboat!

That's part of why I started my read through. Also because I was looking at my bookshelf thinking I had to cull some books and I didn't want to get rid of my King books, so I figured I'd better read them.

Of course now I have more King books - the opposite outcome I was planning!

I've been doing a full read (and re-read in many cases) of King's novels in chronological order and I've been living in Mid World for most of 2023.

I'm eager to move back to King's other work. I haven't loved the series, but I know it's many folks fave.
