I've started to see an occasional bluebird around our house. We have lots of wildlife, but it's always a surprise to see the blue and orange.

This Greenops trilobite is a bit beat up, but the small dots on this plate are Ostracods (sometimes known as seed shrimp). I found this on the Lake Erie shoreline near Buffalo, New York. It's Devonian aged Wanakah Mb.

Since it's #WorldSeaTurtleDay and #FossilFriday , here is Protostega gigas, from the Upper Cretaceous of Kansas and Texas. The Texas specimens approach the size of Archelon, generally regarded as the largest sea turtle, at 4.2 meters (14 feet) in length. At the Witte Museum, San Antonio, TX.

I usually post invertebrates for #FossilFriday . This is one of the few vert fossils in my collection. Pennsylvanian aged amphibian tracks from the Mansfield Fm. near Bloomfield, IN. There's even a faint tail drag on the larger piece.

I'm down to the last 6 drawers of my fossil collection that still need to be added to my inventory. Everything else has a specimen number and label.

(I still have a lifetime of unprepped material that will eventually get a number and ID when cleaned)

Here's a strange one for #TrilobiteTuesday

This is a Spathacalymene nasuta from the Silurian Massie Fm. near Napoleon, Indiana. These are very rare trilobites with a shovel nose and often found upside down. This specimen had to be flipped during preparation.

Three different blastoids from the Thunder Bay Limestone of Alpena, Michigan. I found all of these last weekend - Placoblastus, Nucleocrinus and Heteroschisma. The first 2 are uncommon and often beach worn. These are perfect specimens.

I took my son fossil hunting last weekend and we had an amazing trip. I found some beautiful blastoids. He found the best crinoid and I'm very jealous. I'm prepping it for him and it should be stunning. Megistocrinus concavus from the Devonian Thunder Bay Limestone.

I'm a huge comic geek also and I'm about to head to Motor City Comic Con. So here's something different for #FossilFriday - a trilobite comic book!

It was published in 2006 by Josh Frankel.

We have at least 3 large snapping turtles in our pond.

This one likes to rest on the muskrat home.

Her name is Snappy McSnapperface.

She lays eggs in our yard every year.

This is a small Devonian horned coral that tells a story of survival. Something happened to the primary body (attack, buried in a storm?) and two new corallites started to grow.

I had another great day fossil hunting. Blastoids are hard to find here.

This one is the smallest I've found. Hyperoblastus reimanni from the Devonian Silica Shale. Blastoids are echinoderms related to starfish and sand dollars. They have 5 point symmetry.

I'm taking my kids on a field trip to the Devonian tomorrow. We always find lots of brachiopods and if I'm lucky I'll find a blastoid.
