I read from my coded teenage diaries at an event called "Mortified." It was therapeutic. Maybe it should be called "Healed."

Listen to these 16 minutes about escaping bullies, overwhelming homesickness, coming out of the closet, and finding love.

I can’t wait to share the story of research psychologist Evelyn Hooker, who grew up on Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

At the urging of a student in the 1950s, she disproved the idea that being gay was a mental illness. Gay people had been subjected to horrific “treatments.”

We’ve heard from several Coloradans who’ve been pulled over in Kansas and subjected to a technique dubbed the Two-Step. It turns a traffic stop into a search— presumably for cash and cannabis.

I spoke with the attorney who keeps winning these cases:

Digging through photos of myself as an adolescent has been a… unique experience as I prepare for “Mortified” in June. I’ll read from my teenage journals, which were coded so I could keep it a secret that I am gay.

Everyone should know the name Hannie Schaft, a member of the Dutch resistance who killed Nazis and saved Jews. She’s the inspiration for Buzzy Jackson's latest, which comes out tomorrow.

“To create ‘Crab Trapper Whiskey,’ we teamed up with the University of New Hampshire to find a use for our state’s invasive green crab population, which wreaks havoc on our coastal ecosystem.”

Kelly Takaya King visited Denver Botanic Gardens this week from Maui to see the Amache rose, which is planted in the Steppe Garden. Several members of her family, including her father, were incarcerated during WW2. Clippings from the rose at Camp Amache are expected to bloom here soon.

My first concert was Harry Belafonte the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA. He had the audience sing along, and it was very special.

These lyrics came back to me this morning from Jamaica Farewell: “But I'm sad to say I'm on my way. Won't be back for many a day…”

A literary festival at 9,000 feet! Mountain Words takes place May 25-28 in Crested Butte.

I’ll tape Colorado Matters with author Joel Warner (no relation). His book is about more than the Marquis de Sade. It’s about bibliomania, censorship and crime.
