I adored #PastLives , a film directed so confidently and backed by a near-perfect script that it's hard not to fall in love with it. Easily one of my favorites of the year — it will be hard to knock out of my top five.

As much as I wanted to love #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderverse , it fails to come close to where the original is for me, mainly due to the fact that it prioritizes fan service over a strong story. It truly feels like the first entry in a two-part story and gets predictable as it ends.

I watched #hypnotic , a movie that reminded me of a lot of films I've seen before but didn't execute what it borrowed from them as well as it should've.

Prepare yourself for the endless comparisons to 'INCEPTION' and 'SHUTTER ISLAND' to come.

Maybe it's because of my dissatisfaction with the most recent Marvel movies but I thought #GotGVol3 was perfectly fine. I had a lot of issues with the film's tone, but the sincerity and emotion is constant throughout the (well-ish-paced) runtime. The last needle drop wrecked me. (1/2)

For the most part, I really loved 'SANCTUARY,' a sickly twisted film that knows what it is and why we're watching it. Margaret Qualley is a commanding presence, backed by a restrained Christopher Abbott who lets loose in the third act. Not a huge fan of the way the film resolves — can't win 'em all.

For what it's worth, Ari Aster went all-out with BEAU IS AFRAID, but I just can't get behind everything in the film. With a tighter runtime and more focus, Aster could've been 3/3.

BEAU IS AFRAID (2022): While I respect Ari Aster's creative vision and unwavering commitment to his movie, most of the way the film is handled doesn't work. The 3-hour runtime feels extremely bloated, and strong work from Phoenix, LuPone, and Posey can't save the film.
