I got it to work on mobile, at least! I’ll keep trying on the desktop.

I would if there were an error message, but there isn't. the only reason I know it didn't work is that nothing ever appears on BlueSky, even though, on this end, it appears that everything is set up properly.

Hmm. I logged out and back into both, turned on the option to share to BS, and... nothing.

Is there something I need to do (other than authenticate my Bsky account) to make this work? Or does it take a while to cross-post? I tried it about 15 minutes ago, but still nothing on Bsky, so maybe I did it wrong?

"Text-based IG" is a really wild contradiction in terms, too. IG is inherently NOT text-based. I've been on it for years and there's hardly any conversation. Threads is ALL conversation. They may be connected by code, but otherwise, they're completely different, even antithetical, experiences.

They're connected in terms of user base, and name, but that's really it, from a functional, user standpoint. You can set up an IG account and never use IG, just Threads. And I suspect that's largely what's going to happen. It's ~2 days and I have zero need to look at IG ever again, honestly.

Honestly? IG hasn't been that place for a long time. It's a garbage heap of ads and "influencers" trying to convince you your life isn't good enough. It's dull as dishwater, which is why Threads may well kill it.

Threads is a totally different vibe from Instagram. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up killing Instagram, with Threads all that's left--if it continues the way it has been.

They've been doing it that way for decades, though, regardless of whether "motor voter" laws were in place, but people do tend to go for assumptions over facts.

It's also BS. They pull jurors from DMV records, not voting records, probably for that very reason.

Last time Carol Moseley Braun ran for president, she said the first time she ran for office, she was prepared for the racism, but she was totally not prepared for the level of sexism she encountered. The sexism is real and it runs DEEP in this culture.

I did them daily (twice a day, in fact), for a long time. But I'm thinking of more specific uses than just a general vibe. I think they can be really useful parts of the creative process, for instance. Just working out what that looks like on a regular basis.

I keep trying to figure out how I want to incorporate cards into what I do both personally and professionally. I think they're a super valuable tool, but haven't quite hit on just the right approach yet, though I've used several. Something to keep experimenting with, for sure.

I had not heard of that update, but I just took a look and it does seem to be better on the iPad.

You're much too harsh on apps, though. Some, like the eBay/Etsy apps, have better features than the original website. They're much more usable than the original sites.

I'm aware, but the fact is that this site is still unusable on my iPad, and sites like the bird site remain clunky on mobile compared to their actual apps, so there's still a benefit to using them, hence the desire for them.

Exactly. Question 2 is not a simple yes/no question. The structure of the survey is terrible because no one who created it thought like someone who might be trying to take it.

I think the same is true re: a mobile app. You'll get more people with one, and more of them will be journalists.

Good to know. I set up a tab on Safari on my Mac, but my latest FF tab hasn't croaked yet, so I hadn't reached a conclusion yet. What's the best way to let the Spoutible folks know?

If it helps... I met him back in 2009--just before his 60th birthday. From a distance, you'd never have guessed he was 60—but when it was my turn to meet him, it was pretty obvious. I'll bet the same is even more true now. Great guy either way, though!

I hear you. I like that FF is more privacy-focused and not the memory hog Chrome is (or was when I last used it). Let me know what happens! I may try something different, too, and will also report back.

I'm on Firefox, too, and definitely also not a low-end machine (brand new Macbook Pro 16, M1Pro, 32 GB RAM). I wonder if Firefox has something to do with it, since it seems to be the neglected browser these days?

Why would I clear the entire cache when closing the tab and opening a new one is sufficient? That's impractical considering how often this is a problem.

I'm not going to clear the cache for the entire browser if closing a tab and opening a new one is enough to resolve the issue. I'm having the problem on a high-powered MacBook Pro, so I don't think memory is the issue, either.
