One year ago today, this bit of horror that had flooded my head for a number of years trickled into the world. And it hasn't rained itself out yet.

Ever wake up in the morning and wonder "what the hell did I do that for?"
That was me three hours ago and now the damn sun's nearly up so I guess I have to stick with it.

Morning, everyone. For the first time in two weeks, I have ZERO c***d symptoms! Had some fatigue after yesterday's physical work, but that was it.
Finally.
Two weeks is a long time to be mostly out of commission these days.

On RENFIELD:
I was prepared for horror and comedy. I wasn't so much prepared for plumbing psychological depths and Marvel/MATRIX-style action sequences combined with a police corruption procedural.
This movie includes everything PLUS the kitchen sink, but does it well. I enjoyed it!

Tonight, I'm finally watching RENFIELD. Been looking forward to it. Not sure why I've waited. It's been on Peacock for a bit now.

I've been watching too much Discovery. Had a dream last night that I was a member of Josh Gates's crew. We were in the middle of a Tennessee forest expedition (I know. Wat?) and rescued a house cat that had been attacked by a raccoon. Our quest was to find a local veterinarian.

Haven't done one of these in a long while, but I still have this Bublish account, so I might as well.
Here's an excerpt from Chapter Eight of my horror novel HELL SPRING, along with the "director's commentary."

As my recovery continues, I'm flashing back to my youth. Might hook up my old VIC-20 and Atari 2600. Why not?

Great Scott, I'm tired, y'all. I wake up tired. I go to bed tired. I'm tired of being tired. The virus might be gone, but the fatigue dallies.

YAAASSSS! First negative test since testing positive nine days ago. Of course, my brain wants to convince me it's a false negative even tho I followed instructions to the letter. Testing again in 48 hours just to be safe. #finally

My headache finally cleared (after two agonizing days of writhing and groaning and trying everything).
Hair brought to you by my pillow and cov-d. Thinning brought to you by male pattern baldness.

First day in five that I've awakened without my throat on fire. Good sign, I think.

“Chief, there’s something terribly wrong here in Derry. And you know it.”
Watching IT (1990) immediately after watching AMADEUS (1984). If I watch THE DOORS (1991) next I’ll basically be back in my college night life. 😝

Three doses of Paxlovid remaining.
The worst thing about this illness so far has been less the symptoms and more the isolation from the rest of my home.
Finding myself today feeling like quitting everything: work, socials, my books, etc., etc.

RIP Jimmy Buffett. Gonna pop my copy of BOATS, BEACHES, BARS & BALLADS in the old CD player today. That boxed set got me through a literal ice storm back in 1993 (and many other bad days/nights since).

Occasionally, I remember that Debbie Harry starred in the wraparound segment of the TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE movie and it makes me happy.

Yes, the symptoms of my first-ever COVID-19 infection have been milder than other illnesses I've had in the past, but this persistent sore throat makes me wish I could just rip out my own tonsils.

I've opined on what NOT to do when you get bad reviews. I have opinions on reviewing, too. Some of my rules when I review:
* Author humanity/sanity is not defined by their work
* Reviews are not for personal attacks
* DNFs should not be starred
* Splatterpunk is a fun subgenre

Tragically funny to see the folks we admired in the '80s for standing up to hate and lies now embracing hate and lies.

Well, fuck. After more than 3.5 years of never catching it, looks like it hitched a ride with me back from the convention this past weekend.
