After watching the USA-NED match, the argument that hijabs are not safe (why the 1st is in 2023) is laughable. There was so. much. hair pulling.

Legal and moral culpability is not a pie -- if one person has more legal culpability, another must have less.

They both expand to encompass all of the actors and their wrongdoings.

Sure, there are mitigating circumstances, but buying into propaganda as a functioning adult is not one.

This is settled international and US law. Nazi soldiers tried the defense that they were "just following orders" and the world said, "doesn't matter."

But there are other, equally virulent, equally extreme, and dangerous sects of fundamentalist xtianity that do want to steal people's children and raise them up "right." Amy Coney Barrett is one, though apparently, this genocide was a step too far for her.

Specifically, adults who affirmatively took an oath to the constitution and have supposedly received training that includes things like they are responsible for knowing what is a legal and illegal order and according to law, are culpable for following illegal orders from their chain of command.

Multiple things can be true at them same time:
- Higher-ups in the military are responsible for allowing a propaganda outlet be the default on base
- Everyone at Fox is culpable for the propaganda

AND

- Service members are responsible for their own actions because they are adults

Tech/tech-business journalists swallow *everything* these tech bros tell them. Like, all the stuff that has come to the surface about Elon now? He's been in the public eye for 2 decades. Why were you all not being *significantly* more critical during the 1st scam or two that he pulled?

It is flat-out embarrassing how much credibility they ever had.

I just heard a teaser about some AI reporting how good it was because it "impressed even a tech reporter". And my very first thought is tech/tech business reporting is as bad if not worse than political reporting.

I am confident many of the parents who opt for it are controlling and emotionally inadequate parents. But I think it is also possible for parents to not realize what they are getting into & be too trusting that these outfits follow pretty standard health & safety protocols & they definitely do not.

We are objectively safer where we live now than where I grew up. We were objectively safer when we lived in a city that topped the most dangerous lists.

I grieve for the families of those who died and were injured or traumatized.

But the narrative that rural people are more American or even more people and therefore more deserving of sympathy, feel the trauma more deeply that people who live in cities is so insidious.

I just want to also address how corrosive this is on multiple levels and ways.
