Ever heard of a donor advised fund (DAF)?

Report out on DAF trends:

The vast majority of DAFs in this study (81%) were opened after 2010, and over one in four DAFs in
the dataset were opened after 2020.

English needs new words to capture important nuance in 2024:

misinformation -- wrong information that spreads to people, either by accident or be design

disinformation / disinforming -- people who are willfully misled by those who broadcast information... for a purpose

and "disinformants"

This is one of the hallmark questions that splits people in the USA along the liberal-conservative political spectrum. But did you anticipate that the progressive left would be the ones who most strongly believe they have little agency?

A feeling of agency leads to successful activism

Amazon apparently wanted to make it harder to cancel Prime.

So they allegedly added a complex cancellation process to confuse consumers.

Now the FTC is suing Amazon for scamming millions.

Good.

This is what it looks like when government works on behalf of the people.

From #AI #LLM paper:
"When we say that LLMs produce human-like responses, we should always keep in mind that the humans in questions are Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic. Or, in order words, WEIRD."

academia is probably 30 years away from this, but combining with python gives you the best overall performance and ease of iteration / innovation.

Why do academic researchers still stick with R? I hope their students are learning newer tools.

This seems like a huge undervaluation for "the front page of the internet"... but I suppose value is only what more money you can squeeze of people who love a thing, and #reddit isn't designed for that. #technews

Half of the US workforce would rather work elsewhere. Doesn't bode well if a key quality of life indicator for a society is "work-life balance" or "in my true vocation" instead of just putzing around in some lame job.

It would appear that if Biden had the power that Trump claims a president should have, Biden could just send Trump to jail as a threat to the country without trial.

Of course, that's unlawful.

Net population change 2020 vs 2010 US census shows that the West is growing and the Midwest and South are shrinking, outside of NC/GA/TX metro areas and most of Florida.

Colorado - where I live, is also growing a lot.

At a research conference last month I learned that what we call GIVING varies based on a 61 country survey:

-philanthropy is a thing rich people from the Global North do
-charity is what better offs do to the poors
-generosity is like mutual aid, community self-help, the stuff we want to be tied to
