A year ago today I gave up drinking. I didn’t really have a reason other than wanting to see what it was like.

It was surprisingly harder than I thought, but it allowed me to recognize the whole activity as closer to a habit than a choice.

Not sure what I’ll do moving forward, but I feel good.

Good for you! I also did this a year ago. Started as a month. Then took it longer. I was experiencing some health issues and decided to take alcohol out of the equation. Even though I didn’t drink daily, or even weekly. I’m glad, for me, it’s a choice. Others are not so lucky.

I hope you’re doing well now. Alcohol is a unique aspect of our culture. I will probably drink again at some point but I really want it to be completely a choice rather than some kind of weird habit I accidentally developed. Best of luck and thanks for the thoughts.

I quit after a 100 day Gong (resolution meditation). I resolved to keep avoiding alcohol. Now I happily drink a craft non alc IPA by Athletic Brewing Co, and have never missed anything else about drinking. Non alc has come a long, long, way.

It’s definitely a different way to view things. I think I finally have stopped considering a drink when going camping or to visit family. It’s strange how ingrained alcohol is in our culture. And, I do appreciate its effects and could still enjoy a drink, but I can’t stop wondering why. Best of luck
