Two weeks ago I had a discussion with a friend who is furiously anti-vaxx.

When I pointed to peer reviewed studies she said the studies weren't valid because "peer reviewed" meant their FRIENDS reviewed these studies.

I think about what she said at least 3 times a day.

I got in an argument with a stranger in the grocery store who told me I didn't understand what peer reviewed meant. Uhm, I was an academic librarian who regularly taught pre-med, nursing, & kinesiology students what peer-reviwed articles were and how to find them.

And his definition was wrong.

It's how loud and wrong they are that shocks me every time. I wouldn't dream of contradicting someone, let alone spark an argument with a stranger over something I clearly know nothing about.

So a jury of their peers means they are friends? Seems like your friend does not know the meaning of the word ‘peers’.
I don’t think your friend is firing on all cylinders.

It's right wing media brain rot. Once a person regularly consumes that type of media all day every day, they lose the ability to use logic and think critically.

It makes me sad to see her this way. But also angry b/c she there was a time when she knew better.
