Rep. Ritchie Torres

Let me get this straight:
Congress has the authority to set the Supreme Court’s budget and to infinitely expand the high court.

But, according to Justice Alito, Congress cannot require SCOTUS to have a code of ethics like the rest of the federal government.

Does that sound remotely logical?

Article lll Section 2 states: “The Supreme Court shall have appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such exceptions, and under such regulations as the Congress shall make.”
Congress CAN regulate ethics of the Supremes. Never seemed to until now, when ethics upset the Chief Justice.

Fascists have not logic. We need bold action, but that doesn't appear possible in this Congress.

and the current ethics standard applicable to Congress is sub par, never mind SCOTUS privileged stature… legislation needs to raise the standard for all

No, it doesn't. This Court majority has zero interest in logic- either in theory or practice. It has nothing to do with examining evidence/ precedents & interpreting the Constitution; it's about writing an opinion, however poorly written or shabbily constructed, justifying their foregone conclusion

I so desperately wish that Congress could get together enough to say, "Oh yeah? OK, bet."

It does because the system is organized such to preserve the power of interests that Alito serves. So that's why both of those concepts are together because he knows that the distribution of the House seats means the court would never be expanded until those interests are endangered.

Nope. I can’t believe these judges believe it either. They plan on seeing how far they can undermine our democracy before they’re held to account.

Not logical. More like proactive. What has the good old judge been up to? 🤔 Dems have a good chance of taking back the house. He's playing offensive politics. Get the base on my side. Then when Congress tries to pass ethics guidelines, the base gets mad.
