Just a thought: what if we stopped measuring the economy by the state of the stock market and started measuring it based on how many people are housed and clothed and fed?

Presumably the people making and applying the measures are all relatively comfortably housed. Maybe a more diverse group should help define what the key measures should be.

This is a great idea that should be started immediately. If we do it now we can show improvements as we go along. It would also scare the shit out of any Republican that might talk about cutting social services and entitlements.

That sounds too much like the dreaded, gulp, socialism. Putting the actual welfare of people as how success is measured.

As it should be. Won’t happen under our current status quo. Or at least until we smash the patriarchy!

That makes a tremendous amount of sense! Unfortunately, that probably means it will NEVER happen. Personally, I don’t think the economy is as good as what they say (not Biden’s fault). People may not be unemployed, but many are UNDEREMPLOYED! Companies are STINGY!

Agreed.
But until #Democrats and #Progressives take the time to build a messaging and communication system like Fox and Talk Radio, very little will ever get done.

We know that we have the right ideas, we just haven't invested in the vehicle to get the message out.

All the investment money is tilted towards the right wing and I consider MSNBC, cnn etc. to be economically right wing.

America is supposed to be #1 because we have the strongest military and the superwealthy can horde even more money on Wall St.

Yet France, Spain, and Germany have universal health care, no student debt, quality public transit, and high-speed rail.

We have a strong military and weak society.

Yes! I’d love to learn more about measuring economic success on metrics other than GDP. Any suggestions?
