I ask this every time they make me pay for an ebook.

The above is meant half-jokingly: ebooks should be significantly cheaper than paperbacks and it's a scam that they aren't and I'm salty about it.

And how do you really assign value to something that can be copied/pasted/saved/downloaded?

It is annoying at times that digital hasn't brought prices down much, but then I consider how much is available for a few dollars a month via Kindle Unlimited and it really makes up for it.

I'd like to agree, but Amazon is too evil even for my shrivelled black heart, so I avoid them on principle.

Edit: I know, I know - "look at this li'l guy, he's boycotting Amazon, lol". Bit what else is there, really?

Cheaper, yes, but it’s not only the paper you are paying for, it’s the author’s work and that of the publishing staff. Same for newspapers; it’s not only the newsprint but the reporters and the newsroom behind it. Last I followed, libraries pay significantly more for ebooks than for physical books.

Yes...? The whole point of the second paragraph of my spout was to clarify that I don't object to paying for ebooks as such, just the prices. 🙂

I spent thousands on ebooks when I was working. Now that I'm retired, I use the library. I have the time. The ebooks don't have the variety yet but I can join libraries in large cities in my state and get them that way. But I like paper books and request what I want.
