Vestiges of a major bereavement had me take a break in my career. Joining Spoutible was instrumental in my finding my voice again. I am ready and excited to get going on a new opportunity. I am hitting some traditional walls:

Most of my career has been in media sales and advertising. I am not married to it as it is a very young industry. So I want to see where my transferable skills can come into play.

I was wondering where you were! We missed you.
I had a similar situation of being older with gaps in my resume. I ended up taking a job with a temp agency with the logic that I would be able to try different jobs without commitment. My third assignment of 2 weeks ended up being 20 years.

I wish I could help, one yr into a new career myself and I'll be 60 this year. I would suggest, however, checking USAJOBS.gov for federal jobs that may suit your massive talents, and many gov jobs are tele now. Just a suggestion.

This hit a chord. I started a new career on my 50th bday. Was an engineer before leaving for the kids. Then getting back to a "real" job was HARD. I pivoted to a different field in the same industry and was lucky to find a company that values diversity and encourages life experiences. Good luck!

I’d take a look at resumes on linked in, make sure your resume titles and terminology sound current and your prepared for online interviews. Potential employers are looking on linked in too. I'm not 1 to post much of my personal journey on SM but will share this...I + 487 other applicants applied for 1 of 16 a new positions. I was prob the oldest one. Never gave that a thought. Knew I was qualified. I got the job. Hang in there...you will find the right place/perfect fit for You!

No connections I can offer but let me jump on the age thing. Lost my job after 25 yrs at age 50 and decided to confront it head-on in the cover letter: "On good days, my 50 years of life experience and serenity give me wings - on bad days I look like 50."
Had 3 interviews because of that sentence.

Thank you for saying that! I figured I would try something new. Yes. Mom returnees has been a big issue as well. Perhaps as Spoutible develops groups we can join forces and start an over 50 group for women in the workforce.

I totally understand the journey you are on. Been there, retrained, resume, got a job and then summarily drummed out.

Yeah. Same. Finally got back into work after bereavement and hit major ageism at an advertising agency filled with young people who worked to push me out. It sent me backwards in grief. And I am just feeling ready to head out into the scrum again. Sorry you were drummed out also.
