Completely functional stairs, with a wheelchair ramp built in. I love it when a design is practical and also #Inclusive .

I saw this in Vienna and walked the steps several times. I cant attest to the safety of the ramps.

It's clear that the designer didn't do an ops check on these.

Unfortunately the illusion of accessibility isn't accessibility.

Breakdown of issues:
Uneven stair heights.
Rails to nowhere.
Ramp incline, plus no handrails on ramps.
Poor visual cues.

¼" per foot rise maximum on wheelchair ramps. Way to steep. Violates codes in many states. Sorry... looks nice but not practical.
Please don't @me????? :))))

That's a very cool design. It would also make a nice little mountain bike playground during the overnight hours. Not that I'm recommending anyone do so, just that I would if I was there...

Methinks this may be an example of a time where form has truly usurped the function it claims to provide. For a person who doesn't see well, this would be a complete nightmare.

Upon first look it appears inclusive but this definitely wouldn’t work especially for those with vision impairments. Some of the steps appear to be higher than the ramp surface and could trip up anybody really. It’s series of accidents waiting to happen.

I use a walker and I wouldn't use a ramp like that. I have enough problems on narrow sidewalks on who should step on the grass to pass. The answer is always the one without walking aids. I can see a person in a hurry knocking me down. Just no not going in a building with those.

There are building codes for a reason. This is frightening from a safety standpoint (and I'm a former architect who often cursed onerous regs.)

That's actually a disaster, not functional at all. As a actually disabled person I can tell you these are just to look "inclusive" and would be unusable by many disabled people.

I'm not disabled, but I do have terrible spatial awareness, and I would constantly tripping on these stairs.

You just know there are going to be a number of perfectly able folks who don't realize those are stairs and are just winding thier way walking down the ramp thinking,"Damn, I wish there was a shorter path!"

What do you think is the smallest space that design concept could be practical in? Could it be applied to provate residences?

Brilliant! It's also a pram (stroller) ramp! How I despised stairs and no available escalator when my kids were babies.

This isn't actually practical at all (I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not from the post). More info here: https://incl.ca/the-proble... 🙂

After reading the article, I missed that as you step off the stairs onto the ramp, it's not flat. Good point.
Imagine going up that with crutches
