We have the capacity to prevent gun violence and save lives. The greatest obstacle on the path to gun safety is the fanaticism of the far right, which opposes any and all gun regulation.

Are you sure it’s not a simple case that The N RA has bought “air cover” from Congress via campaign donations in the millions? There’s no better demonstration that “ we the people” is powerless in front of the mighty dollar.

And the selfishness of people who think they are moderate but just don’t want to give up their toys. And the apathy of most of everyone else who just seem to tolerate it all, but what will it take to get people out on the streets and protesting in a meaningful way and make change happen?

The fanaticism is cover for the corrupt motivations. The manipulators take advantage of the self-justification and related tendencies of a sub-population and exploit it. Framing it that way, while understandable (from our perspective), is counterproductive because of the #BoomerangEffect and others.
