F-1 Round 20 - Mexican GP Race thread

Both Max & Checo had a great start. It was a 3 into 1 move on turn 1 (aka a Ferrari sandwich) and Checo is out of the race! Ill-advised move, IMHO. Charles broke his end plate and it was dangling for awhile before it fell off so he continued.

Lap 35 -
Big shunt by KMag after his suspension broke. His car was on fire for a bit, but he looks ok.

Race red-flagged.

Race restarted awhile back (got distracted from spouting... 😀).

Lewis gets past Charles after a few attempts so he's running P2. Battle between Carlos & George has been going on for many laps.

Around lap 49, contact between Oscar & Yuki with Yuki faring off worse (both cars still running).

Lap 60, Lando makes a fantastic move on DannyRic, he is now P6 and chasing down George.

Lando makes the pass on George on lap 68 to get to P5.

Race done and Max wins as expected.

RB -
Another day of feast or famine for RB. Max's only challenge was whether he could make it safely through the first corner after the two starts (initial start and after the red flag). After that, it was a simple drive for him.

As for Checo, it's easy to say in hindsight that he should not have made that move on the first corner. Of course, it wasn't going to work, with 3 cars trying to fit in the space for 2. Checo also had the best view of the 3.

In Checo's defense, the margins in F-1 are very slim and you only have a split second to decide to go for it or to bail out. Ironically, his great start was his undoing... 🤷

MB -
Excellent day for MB, another podium for Lewis and George going from P8 to P6.

Ferrari -
All things considered, it was a great day for Ferrari. Yes, the only finished P3/4 from P1/2, but Charles was lucky to survive that first contact (thought he was going to be shown the black/white flag).

McLaren -
Good day for McLaren. Lando was definitely the driver of the day, finishing P5 despite the poor quali as well as the issues on the restart after the red flag. Good points for Oscar.

Good drive by DannyRic, the points he scored allowed AT to move up to P8 in the constructors (and big $$$ at the end of the season).

Albono in the points again! Williams in P7 in the constructors' title was something I didn't have on my bingo card.

For the Driver's standings, Carlos is now in P4 (tied with Alo but ahead in the tie-breaker). The gap between Checo & Lewis is back to 20 points.

In the Constructor's standings, Ferrari still has a shot at P2 but running out of time.

Checo said normally the car in the middle brakes earlier, unfortunately for him, LEC braked at the same time as the RBs…

He said he took a risk and that he was okay with his decision. Personally, I would’ve played it safer, but it is what it is 💔

Ironically, his great start was also what led to the incident. He was almost able to make the move and should probably have braked before going into the corner (no room for 3 cars), but easy to say in hindsight.
