Responding to your post on mentors.

I understand the sentiment of your post. Ayn Rand, in several of her books, provided even more detailed expansion of similar ideas - she even appears to be correct.

The reality however is more challenging and disturbing.

There is historical evidence throughout the ancient world before Christianity, Islam & Judeaism ever existed of the persistent transfer of hate and violence. It is important for every human being to see that religion alone past, current or future cannot resolve how humanity is.

The Constitution helps us but we citizens must insist on adherence to it. Debate on improving it should continue but our role as citizens is to choose less cruelty, better compassionate fairness and justice as well as better adherence to treaties and commitments. We need to pay attention.

We can have this attention become a gift uplifting and improving the common defense of us all without violence but we need to focus, see and respect others pain - not deride or jeer at those who have suffered and continue to suffer. Old prejudices are not helpful in any paths leading to peace.

There is serious work on our human nature to address. We have avoided doing so for too long. That endeavor can be engaged upon by individuals while as communities and as a nation we address what we must with our best selves.
