Even in 2022, it was impossible to get the Depp fanatic trends to go away no matter many times you clicked “not interested”. Same with Instagram. I suspect similar favoritism or money was the reason

yes! and many times they even treated those right wing account differently by needing top level permission before anything was done to the account, I.E libsoftiktok. definition of special treatment for the special snowflakes.
