Took the (non-Native) hubby and our Anishinaabe daughters to this last night. It was awesome to walk into the Art Museum and smell sweetgrass. This #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth has been heavy already, but last night gave a much needed boost.

Good food, good company, and good words.

It's been heavy for a lot of reasons. Took our 13yo to see Killers of the Flower Moon and cried through it. 13yo and 10yo are learning about US history in school, with Natives only mentioned as an afterthought. Genocide by a colonial power on the other side of the world. It's tough.

I try to focus on stories of resilience and Indigenous power, and remind my girls that despite repeated genocide attempts by the US government, we are still here and still thriving. Most of the time I'm filled with joy and pride.

So, #NativeSpoutible , what lifts you when it all just feels heavy?
