Scenario 3: You follow a lot of people, and you followed them all for a reason. But some users are much more active than others. Your whole timeline seems to be made up of people who were on that list of the 30 busiest accounts, and you’re missing posts from some of your quieter friends.

If you already follow them, they won’t know. If you don’t, the system will follow them for you, and they’ll be notified of the follow, but not about the list.
I don’t think you need to tell people. You’ve already followed them, so you clearly already want to read their spouts.

You’re missing the list feature which was added yesterday. While your Timeline is already all the spouts from people you follow, you can limit is further by creating user lists. The thread is the “why”, this linked reply is the how.

Very interesting. Is there some way to publish/share lists? I'd love to let someone else do the work of say finding all the PA politics accounts and then just look in on it when I'm interested without spending any time curating the list. Would help me discover new accounts to follow too.

No, there is no way to publish them. While someone could share one via screenshot, you would still need to create and populate it yourself.
The list feature is meant to be private. On sites where they are shareable, they’ve been used as harassment lists. That’s why it’s designed this way.

Lists are an amazing feature that once again show how thoughtful, creative, & capable Christopher is. I do think in practice it'll work as a mute for some – especially those who follow a ton & just want a smaller timeline of their favorite accounts. Which is a great option for them to have.
