When my son was born 2 days after Thanksgiving, at first I thought it was neat. Until I realized how hectic it was planning birthday stuff along with Thanksgiving stuff then rolling right into Christmas and New Years without taking a breath. Whew!

The holiday season officially begins on November 1st, All Saints Day, and the official Christmas season begins on Black Friday. Honestly, it's a lot but as Daylight Savings Time turns everything so dark, it gives many people purpose. Of course homicides and suicides go up too.

That's an interesting way too look at it. The purpose bit.

I've been saying for years—probably since I became a parent, come to think of it—that we need to adopt the Canadian Thanksgiving schedule. Makes more sense since it would be closer to actual harvest time vs. this artificial date. Besides, you need more space between visits with some families 🤷‍♀️

I can see the point. Although, counterpoint, I have always felt Thanksgiving made a suitable thematic transition between Halloween and Christmas.

I propose we bring back pagan holidays. Ritual sacrifice, orgies and days of hallucinogenic consumption while strolling the countryside just sounds so much more fun.

I can send you a list, if you need it. Mostly quartered equinoxes, unless you're planning on being fanatical. Then we go into eighths.

While I love Thanksgiving (or used to until family issues got weirder) the early creep of Christmas just after Halloween and the entire month of December are the loneliest time of the year, in spite of my love for twinkle lights.

It’s stressful. Your way would be better, but we also make a big deal out of Halloween so 🤷‍♀️

The idea of Thanksgiving before Halloween makes me feel I’m upside down. And kinda takes the juice out of Halloween too, for me.
