I can't stand the way so many people treat their children. From the YouTube videos of children who've been set up to sob uncomforted because it's "funny" to your story, I just can't.

Especially since anybody having kids now is young enough to know "the internet is forever." Boomers and older GenX didn't really grok the concept, but people young enough to have kids now have no excuse.

This whole thing just hurts me for little ones who are forced to perpetuate stereotypes of gender roles rather than just being themselves. This type of behavior leads to so many mental health issues down the road. So very sad.

When my son was 12, he needed a new binder and picked out a pink one. He was doing homework at my dad's house one day when we were there. My dad literally could not understand why a boy would want something pink. Toxic masculinity is so ingrained. It's awful.

Kiddo wanted a Yoshi tee. It didn't matter to him that it was pink, but it did to a stranger who "advised" that his long hair and the shirt might have him mistaken for a girl.

I get this all the time. It may seem like a small thing, but we sell these little sheepskin booties for babies. Some have beads. pretty beads. The grandma or mom will ask for some. What beads do you want, I ask. Something for a boy or girl they say. I say right back. I don't know what that means.

I have a son who loves literature & poetry and a daughter who loves math. When they were still in public elem school, every. damn. day. they were told messaging by teachers & peers that boys don't love to read & write poetry and girls aren't good at math. And every. damn. day I deprogrammed them.
