Woke/Saying NO to polls

I just read a spout which mentioned Taylor Swift and Liz Cheney being the women who may save Democracy. I understand the premise behind this, but I can't help but think of the women actually doing the work..

Taylor has done & said some good things but I still remember her dating Matty Healy saying she knows "he's problematic" but went ahead until (seemingly) the backlash from fans (and possibly endangering her $) got too great. Then moved on to the football player

... and all the women on local school boards, fighting the unhinged book bans. So many unsung local women doing such good work.

(All genders are doing great work, of course, but since this spout was just about women.)

Dan Rather wrote a piece about these women perhaps "saving" democracy, which was an odd take. No one is coming to save us. But don't sell Taylor Swift short. She is an activist. She talks about justice everywhere; she encourages young people to register and vote. She is doing the work.

Well, as we all come to know: The gap between the way things are and the way things ought to be is usually large. But if Cheney and Taylor can help, fine with me. The fire is raging. They have buckets.

Don't forget Stacey Abrams, without whom there would be no Democratic Senate majority

I posted a link to Dan Rather and Elliot Kirschner's Substack article that sounds what you describe.

I'm fully in agreement with your statement -- the women you list are on the front lines, defending democracy. Thanks for your spout.

Yes. And Taylor Swift speaks truth to power everywhere she goes. She is an activist, responsible for over 35,000 young people registering to vote. She is doing the work.

Amen! If only the majority of voters were bright enough to grasp that….
We are a nation of lots of ignorant people who like the pretty picture and the quick fix.

Taylor Swift is just doing her part but Cheney? Yeah, zero warm fuzzies there for that closet fascist.

I like Taylor Swift for her advocacy on voting. I admit to knowing next to nothing about her music. I admire her business acumen. Liz Cheney gets credit for standing up to Trumpsters. That’s about it. ☮️💙🏳️‍🌈🎄🙋‍♀️

She's amazing. She was my rep until the last census, when they redrew our districts. We still have a good, progressive rep. But I'm bummed that Lauren isn't ours anymore.

If the post means "those two, among many" sure

If it means those two alone, kind of embarrassing for the poster . . .

(and yes, that too is a good starting list)
