Today is the 204 year anniversary of the "Civilization Fund Act," which paid white missionaries to partner with the federal govt to force Native Americans to convert to Christianity or die.

At its peak 357 such schools kidnapped Indigenous kids & abused & tortured them to death. Horrific.

The residential schools were genocide. The cruelty is so extraordinary that the Catholic Church pretends that they weren't at the heart of the program. There were so many more than originally thought.

The Peoples of this "country" were already more civilized than those who left Europe rather than stand up and change their own countries.

Funny how often the most horrific policies are hidden behind the most toothless, euphemistic names.

A similar thing happened in #Australia with Aboriginal children - an era known as "The Stolen Generations" - where children were forcibly removed from families. On 13th of February 2008 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd offered a formal Apology on behalf of the nation to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples.

At least they received an apology... that's not the way in the U.S.

This makes me incredibly sad. So horrific.

And, yes, I believe this needs to be taught in school.

This is why they don't want their history known. Just thinking about shit like this infuriates me. But unless people know and believe what the evidence is showing them we will never atone for the wrongs done to marginalized groups in our country's past.

And by the way, this is the same kind of shit they were doing with separating those poor kids from their families at our border and sending them to places unknown. They wanted to indoctrinate those kids into believing white supremacy and religious zealotry ideals.
