Just an FYI, the term 'soccer' was first used in England. It was at 1st known as "Assoccer" (Don't laugh) came from the term 'association football' thanks to a group of students from the University of Oxford in the 1870s.

It was only known as Soccer as we know it now in 1895.

When I say "Soccer" and "American Football" there is no ambiguity, regardless of audience

When I say "Football" . . .

(Similarly, I didn't hashtag the article "National League" because it would ping baseball fans rather than those interested in the lower leagues)
