Self-reflection or introspection is how we learn to grow as a person. If your thoughts, beliefs, opinions can't stand up to your own criticism, how can you expect it to stand up to external criticism. If it doesn't pass the self test it's time to reassess.

An emotional person is not a rational person and react, while a rational person will made calculated decision and respond.

You can't challenge yourself in an echo chamber you have to have an open mind and look at opposing viewpoints, beliefs, opinions, etc. And use logic, critical thinking and reasoning to lead you in the most correct direction. Emotions need to be left out of the process.

If we don't challenge ourselves we become stagnant, inflexible, entrenched and are much more prone to committing logical fallacies and mucking up our thinking with cognitive biases. We need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
