It's not just conservatives. Gun owners understand that the police aren't obligated to protect them. And in rural areas they are unlikely to arrive until after the tragedy.

I read this one as well. Two things stood out to me.

1. The power and pervasive nature of fear.
2. The almost unimaginable number of firearms scattered throughout our society. Too many to be contained by short political cycles.
